Study: Soccer beats jogging for fitness By MARIA CHENG, AP Medical Writer
Fri Sep 21, 5:23 PM ET

LONDON - A friendly game of soccer works off more fat and builds up more muscle than jogging, new research shows. Danish scientists, who conducted their research on 37 men, also found the soccer players felt less tired after exercising than the joggers because they were having more fun.

I'm not sure how helpful that research is... for example, if you were having more fun (or being competetive, as soccer is) you're probably going to exercise longer or harder than you normally would when jogging intutively. Too many of these studies simply measure time, and leave exertion to how much people simply do instinctively.

If you were comparing it more exactly, the benefits would probably be more relative to the amount of intensity, some hardcore jogging (though at that point it'd be running/sprinting) is going to have more chemical benefits than a half-effort of soccer, and vice versa.
