Thanks, man. I'll get some then.

*edit* I just found a site to get it without a prescription. :)

This is an awesome thread - have you made any changes to your regimen since your last update, Fredrik?
Please share what you are using right now!

Hi Fredriks,

I really would like to thank you for posting such a wonderful informative thread!

Stumbled upon this thread all by chance while googling for some info a few weeks ago.
I was on the verge of surrendering and accepting my lousy skin conditions after years of "combat".
But your skincare regime has completely turned my concept of "skin care" up side down!
You light up my hope again!
Once again, THANK YOU DEARLY.

I heard the retinoids are based on vitamin A and actually alter DNA transcription. Are there any adverse side affects to using a retinoid?

I've also it might be possible to come up with some "at home" setups for UVA photography... might be useful not only for viewing damage but for helping eliminate sources of UV in your home or workplace.

Even I used Retenoid and they are good skin as they are based on vitamin A , which are good for rejuvinating the skin as when we grow older collagen tissues start becoming weak. So , need to keep them strenthening and for that we require vitamin A supplements which are easily now a days.

Hi Fredrik,

Time has passed since you started this thread, and I wonder if technology has improved. Do you have any updates to your regime? Thanks for the public service!

Hi Fredrik.

It's been a while. Hope you're well.

If you don't mind I have a few questions for you.

I'm interested in how you care for your skin when you shave.

1. How do you shave? (preparation, after shave care, how often, morning or night, how often).

I tend to shave at night in the shower. To keep my beard under control I need to shave every day although sometimes I miss a day to give my skin a rest. I'm not sure how to care for my skin when I shave. After I shave I use CE ferulic. This stings a bit and I wonder if this is the right thing to do.

2. Do you apply anything after you shave?

I would like to start using a retinoid in the evening once again. How long after shaving should I do this?

Finally...

3. What do you think is the best way to apply the ce ferulic? I just place 3 drops onto a finger tip, smooth it over my finger tips and then apply to the top half of my face and then repeat for the bottom half. It doesn't really feel like I'm applying it effectively and getting my whole face. Am I do this correctly? Is rubbing my finger tips over my face to apply really getting the ce ferulic onto my face effectively??

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, links to any resources would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Zoo,
yeah it has been a while. I´m doing quite well, working as an educator in the field of cosmetic science now.

1. I shave most of the days, skipping sometimes. I use Nivea Xtreme comfort for sensitive skin (contains anti-inflammatory liqurice root and other botanicals). I shave after I shower.

2. I use Replenix green tea cream CF after shaving. Takes away redness unlike anything. You can also use it over C-serums and nightly over your retinoid.

3. CE ferulic is a very good serum. If you want a lighter texture you can try Is clinical pro-heal serum advance. It also contains retinol and is gentler on most skins than regular C-serums. Skinceuticals phloretin CF also has a lighter texture.

You seem to apply it correctly. A retinoid nightly and SPF daily and you got all you need.

Thank you for that reply. It's good to hear you are well. It's also great to hear that you are working educating about cosmetic science. If you need any help with accessing literature please let me know and I will do what I can to assist.

Thanks again Fredrik.

Hi Fredrik,

I have a question of tretinoin.

I have used the Retino-A from AllDayChemist for a year. Few weeks ago, I went to see a dermatologist and he prescribed me Ketrel (tretinoin 0.05% cream) made by Laboratoires Bailleul-Biorga.

Do you think that it doesn't matter for us to use Retin-A, Renova, Ketrel or generic tretinoin for photodamage & anti-aging as long as the active ingredient is tretinoin?

Fredrik, I have a question for you. About pH in skincare. Say you use a Vitamin C serum which should have an acidic pH around 3 or so. Then you use a sunscreen after, I believe many of them are supposed to work at an alkaline pH like 6 or 7. How essential is it to wait in between and if so, for how long. Is this very important?

Also, Vitmain C in liquid form like CE Ferulic is supposed to be absorbed almost instantly. I use one by Topix called Topix CRS in silicone form. Will it still be absorbed quite quickly, or will it take a much longer time because of the silicone? Thanks

Thanks for the tip on Xtreme comfort — very affordable stuff! Besides the shaving gel, do you use the post-shave balm as well? Or perhaps you consider post-shave products a ripoff? (Obviously, the gel is washed off after shaving, so it's not clear whether its anti-inflammatory substances will have a lasting effect.)

Based on a quick look on the ingredient lists, both seem to contain chamomile and licorice (i.e., the anti-inflammatory stuff); in addition, the balm has some alcohol (which may be drying).

Fredrik - I don't think I've seen you write any thing about topical use of olive oil or coconut oil, something I've heard many comment about but without citing any non-anecdotal evidence. I've tried using them on my face and the skin seems to get softer for a little while, not sure if that means it would be useful for a long term basis or not. The main advantage of these is that they are very cheap compared to most of the things I see recommended on this thread. I am wondering what you think of those two.

Good to hear you are using your knowledge to educate others. Your contributions here are much appreciated!

I don't think olive oil or coconut oil get absorbed into the skin.

Hi Fredriks and everyone!

I'm reordering retinoids from alldaychemist - it's been a while, and I'm just wondering whether anyone knows what the Microsphere Tretinoin Gels are - I gather they're slow release, which presumably could reduce irritation. Anyone try them?

Also, I'm still unclear about whether the gels for tretinoin are preferable to the creams.

Finally, anyone ever try these light therapies that (allegedly) increase collagen?

All the best to all!

~katz
