Tintinet, do you take melatonin nightly, or just occasionally? Dose?

Every night for many years. Now usually 3 to 9 mg regular and 6 to 9 mg time release types/night.

Agree- there seems to be a wide variation in individual to individual sleep requirements. I sleep about 5 hours/night, although I likely would sleep 7 or so, perhaps, with a different lifestyle. I have a colleague who sleeps as little as 2 hours a night on a regular basis. He often holds 3 jobs at a time, and exercises in the middle of the night. Another colleague claims she needs at least 8 hours a night of sleep or feels exhausted....

I don't understand how anyone could go off of 2 hours of sleep a night. I know that I am on the opposite side of the spectrum, but that's not much sleep. Hopefully the guy is ok with that as it would be foolish to work 3 jobs and sacrifice one's health.

Oddly, he seems to thrive on this lifestyle and schedule. An amazing person, seemingly tireless, almost always in terrifically jovial spirits with a biting and ever ready sense of humor. I've never known him to get bothered or upset at anything, and I've worked with him for years.

Is that a polyphasic or a monophasic schedule?

If so, he seems to cope with 'em quite functionally. He's got 3 kids- two 'boys' in college, and one adopted (China) girl in grade schools. His wife doesn't work anymore (retired from IT position).

hydergine seemed to decrease the need for sleep in me.

Btw are you sure it's safe to be taking melatonin daily? I believe it's mainly to be used to readjust sleeping patterns... this is of course for the younger age group. I can understand later on in life when the body no longer produces the same levels... but still safety issues?

Yoga Nidra

I heard claims that Yoga Nidra can improve sleep, but I don't know if there were any theory or actual studies confirming that.

Can you elaborate?
