The bill passed 11 Yes and 1 Absent through the Health Committee on Feb 26.

It now must pass the House and then the Senate and then pass a Governor's vote. It will likely take months before passing into state law.

However, it seems the bill is favorable to Alcor. I have not read the bill which is said to be in favor to Alcor yet.

Please check Joe Waynick's letter to Alcor Members for more:

Has this Bill past or not? I am unclear as to the date it will definitely pass, changes or no changes ... have the remaining undecided people voted? I can see Democrats votes No (unconfirmed) and all Republicans (undecided) but Mr.Stump. Can someone clear this up?

This bill (or a replacement) will not pass until 2005 at the earliest. What happened on Feb. 26 is that the bill was poised to be killed in committee (thanks to all the letters and emails). However because committee support for Alcor's position on the issues was so strong, and because Stump made major 11-hour changes in Alcor's favor, Alcor decided to ask the committee to keep the bill alive so that Alcor would have an opportunity to further shape it in Alcor's favor-- to create laws that would actually put Alcor further ahead than had this legislative activity never took place.

The bill as it stands now is still unacceptable to Alcor, but everyone understands that, and committee members have pledged to kill it on the floor of the house if it is not fixed to Alcor's satisfaction before it gets there during the next legislative session.
