I read about a year ago that tests conducted by the US Department of Agriculture show pecans to have an extraordinarily high level of antioxidants, higher even than blueberries, raisins, or prunes. This makes me wonder what effect they have on retarding aging, preserving or restoring motor activity in the aged, etc. However, when I Google around for experimental results, I find only very light-weight articles, such as a re-statement of their high ORAC followed by a pecan recipe, or an article about preserving pecans in storage. I would like to see the same sorts of experimental results as I have seen for years about blueberries, but, unfortunately, they're just not there. The only serious result that I've found is that adding pecans to the diet lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol.
