Considering we're not even close to winning the other contest that is for $10000 how are we supposed to win this one? I wish we could just pull together and accomplish anything that comes our way, is it because we don't have the will or is it simply because we don't have enough people?

Go ahead and make the push, continue making the push. We put major efforts into these contests in the past and we came close to winning a few of them, we placed in the top 25 once, and come to think of it I think we did win a prize in one of them. 3 bananas I think it was. Its very exhausting to push these though and so some of us havent came fully into the fray on this one.

My suggestion to you, is do as we did, and continue looking in every nook and cranny for support and keep pushing. The key is find people working in related fields, contact them, double up your efforts, and then double up again from there. Be sure to ask the people you are contacting to put the word out in their networks too.

3banana was more like $5,000.

Before making a push for Chase money, an attempt should be made to contact the contest organizer/promoters to make sure they don't arbitrarily kick us out of the contest. They reserve the right to discriminate against the top vote getters. If they think your organization or cause is weird or out of the mainstream, it doesn't matter how many votes you get, you will be disqualified. This is what happened to SENS during the AMEX charity challenge. They had enough votes to make it into the second round of voting (top 25), but were kicked out/disqualified. During the last Chase challenge Falun Gong groups were in the top tier of vote-getters but were no where to be found when the cash was dished out. Chase would not provide the vote counts of the winners - which was an obvious sign (IMO) that they were disqualifying some groups on a subjective basis and not by votes alone.
