Hmmm.....this one is a bit disturbing to me - admittedly my BG in medicinal chemistry gives me only slightly more predictive power than anyone else insofar as new compounds, but I did just try about a mg or less.....mixed with unifiram and a tiny quantity of the related PRL-8-53.
Now, one of the things that has attracted me to the racetams and the sunifiram series is that they seem to be pretty nontoxic. heck, the parent compound piracetam can be spooned down by the gram with seemingly no side effects....in fact there's some evidence that at least in the case of piracetam there are hepatoprotective effects among other things that seem to be independent from ampakine activity....However, as the analogs become more potent, the possibility of side effects may increase, and in the case of IDRA 21 and PRL-8-53, there seems to be actual potential for neuroxoxicity when mixed with the wrong compound in large doses, or if there happens to be an ischemic event. Therefore I will never take more than homepoathic doses of these particular materials....why risk it when cheaper and safer analogs are available? And hey, oxiracetam is delicious! Tastes like something one should be baking with! "Mmmmm - what's this, mom? "Stay away from those kids, those are Grandmaws' special gingerbread smartypants....you kids eat the ones over there..." ;*p
What can I say, I've always been a lab rat, and I will continue to test new nootropics as they come oun, as I believe that biochemical individuality leads there to be a particular compound that will be least toxic and most beneficial for each person. And frankly, for people that have to take benzodiazepines, it's wonderful to have a cheap supplement available that reduces amnesia. This is a serious problem for people prescribed for example Xanax for panic attacks who then find themselves losing car keys, etc (which at least in me can be a panic attack producing event!! ;^p) Clinicians should research this - eg can you restore good memory without reducing the panic attack reduction activity of alprazolam? Can piracetam by itself reduce panic by helping one remember that the probable outcome of a seemingly horrifying situation is going to be OK? A few deep breaths, a little exercize? I'm trying this myself - usually if I can simply remember, "OK, I'm being triggered here just like before...I HAVE to talk to my boss and he/she is probably mad at me...OMFG, Fight or Flight time!." But then I remember: "Wait a minute....3/4 of the time the boss ISN'T mad at me, he/she's just checking in, or giving me a head's up about work, or, (GASP), he's a little irritated, but completely taken aback when I say, "I'm sorry, but I'm panicking right now......can we discuss this gently? I really want to do well here, just help me, please..." Sometimes people don't realize you're internalizing a huge reaction to their routine stuff.....Communication helps. Then you can move on - the boss sees you're doing the work better ' cause he's learned to lighten up, and you are more aggressive (in the positive "get the job done way") because you trust your boss to support you.....am I making sense?
I think as ampakine research continues, it may eliminate the need for many psychotropics.....and certainly the racetams are far less addicting & toxic that paroxetine, fluoxetine, etc.....or if nothing else their dose can be reduced tremendously, which is good for the environment, good for the patient, and really good for the community at large..... Seasons Greetings!
