Hello,
I've been reading this forum for quite some time now, and appreciate the advice and insight from everyone here. For the last year or so, I've been taking some nootropics to help with my cognitive abilities and battle some of the mental issues that I have, without resorting to pharmaceuticals with questionable efficacy. (If it makes a difference, I'm male in mid 20s).
I have a job that requires me to remain very mentally astute, so I don't want to take anything that interferes with that mental sharpness. I did have a small drinking problem for about a year that could have contributed to some of these issues, however I am now sober, but still have a feeling of memory impairment and brain fog among. Also, I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, but I do not want to take benzos for obvious reasons.
Thing's have been looking up, but for the last month, I've had debilitating anxiety and my brain fog has gotten worse. I have trouble speaking to people, and with word recall. I start sentences, and am unable to come up with the correct word to finish it! I used to be a very fluent and able speaker.
In summary, my issue list:
- Anxiety (social anxiety, general anxiety)
- Brain Fog (memory problems, difficulty with words)
- Low Energy
- Depression (may just be a result of the above, or worsened by them)
- ADD? (difficulty concentrating, but I'm not hyperactive)
So far, I've been taking:
Piracetam (1600-2400mg)
Fish Oil (3-4 caps)
Milk thistle* (liver detox)
Vitamin B100 complex
Alpha GPC
Niacin (1g) - now stopped*
* Niacin: I've been taking this for the last 2-3 months, and have noticed trouble sleeping, and weight gain. I was taking the SLO-Niacin brand, and read of potential liver problems, and have now stopped. Appetite has decreased, sleep has improved. I am mixed on using niacin further for anti anxiety and depression, but any input here is appreciated.
* Piracetam - good results, I think my memory is improved. I am still looking for a good choline source, is Alpha GPC the best? What is the ratio of Piracetam:Choline.
What can I add to the stack (either OTC or RX) that can help me accomplish my goals and alleviate my symptoms. Right now, the anxiety and brain fog have me worried most, they hamper my ability to function normally in life and work.
So far, I am considering adding:
-Aniracetam (anxiolytic + memory)
-Picamilon (gaba+niacin for anxiety)
-Bacopa/Ashwaghanda/Rhodiola (I have not read much on these, so input is appreciated)
-Sublutiamine: not much info on this
-Selegiline: its rx and may help with cognition and depression but i don't know about anxiety
Dosages for each? Any contradictions?
Any ideas and input are appreciated.
Thanks.
