Hello PPL,

Nice to be here, this is my first post,

This is the place I found the most info on MB on the net, so I ask my questions here.
I was told by someone to try MB at 100mg/day for my depression (tried many things, SSRI make me a zombie, Wellbutrin stopped working, only Tramadol is a bliss, its perfect for me). So I gave MB a go, I am taking it for 4 weeks, in the studies 200mg/day were used for Bipolar (im clean of everything, I know ill die if i take anything that works on Serotonine), but untill now my depression is not much better. Shall I up the dose to 200 mg, or shall I let il all be. I have read somewhere thet MB in BP only helped for the last part of the healing from 90% to 100% or so.
What do you think?
TY very much

There's really good data showing that the LI160 formula extraction of St. John's Wort really works, and that it works as well as most any of the prescription antidepressants. I'd start there.

The brand name in the USA is Kira.

In Germany it's Jarsin 300.

What about my MB try? Am I intoxicating myself with to much MB? I am carefull not to take anything that works on Serotonine. Sometimes I feel energized and happy, but I also get the bad downs. Is MB not enough alone for depression? Any toughts?

Hmm.. Potentially hypertensive & vasoconstrictive, amongst other things, but probably not fatal anytime soon. :P

Army used to treat/prevent malaria at that dose level.

It was used at 200 mg/day by the army and by the Bipolar study, anyone have an idea about the level of MAOI inhibition at 100 mg and/or 200 mg?
My mood is pretty much high these days I,m also motivated, will keep you updated.

There have been a couple people here who approached your level. One is I think taking 100mg, and is doing fine. The other was in the 60-90mg range, as I recall, and seemed to be hypomanic. At a dose of 200mg, you would want to be using a pharmaceutical grade of MB. At that dose, it should have MAOI activity, which you seem to be aware of. Hard to say what the magnitude would be, but 200 would be more than 100...

Most people are taking 60-500mcg. What you are talking about is over 200x more. Why not start with 60mcg and work your way up. More is not necessarily better.

Also look into the Perika or Kira brand of Saint Johns Wort. Generic SJW did nothing for me but Perika worked well (but it took 3 weeks).

I wouldn't mix higher doses MB with tramadol. Tramadol is contraindicated with MAO-I's.

I tried MB at about 30mg a day for depression. It worked but it seemed to have a very short half life which made multi-daily dosing necessary. Also, I noticed that when it started wearing off it would dip me into a deeper depression than I started with until I redosed. Can't remember exactly but I think I was using it at varying doses for a few weeks. It was too unstable for me to stick through any length of treatment.

Sounds like you already may have read through it but here's a link to amark's first post about his 100mg dosing regimen to treat bipolar II.

Dose for Alzheimers is about 60-75 mgs 3x a day I think, so it really is not an outrageous dosage, even long term, as I presume in bipolar and alzheimers they use these doses prolonged. Or maybe not, studies are often done for rather short periods of time, and then they use that data to put people on them indefinitely. As far as bipolar and depression I am really curious as to what the researchers and others feel the mechanism of action is.

Don't you take Uridine? That works on 5HT?

I tried Kira (along with all other major SJW extracts) and it was by far the most tolerable but unfortunately just relieve all my symptons effectively. I would also consider it to be weak sauce for major depression and is only suitable for those who suffer with mild to moderate depression.

There are also downsides to it in that it can make you a bit lazy and unmotivated.
