I started taking both last week and I think I am on to a special combination.

But first, before I tried both, I previously had taken 5mg of modafinil once a day (for a few days) and the effects were not great. I'd feel slightly more awake but it seemed every other aspects of my mental state was unaffected. I'd have a crash after several (6+) hours and feel very tired. My doctor then prescribed strattera and I started taking the smaller 18mg doses from a sample trial pack strattera gives out. Again, not much success by itself. Strattera made me feel very tired and zoned out. I don't even know if there were any benefits.

Amazingly, I noticed that the two drugs combined make me feel pretty damn good. Motivation is up, and I feel considerably more awake (especially noticeable is how I do not feel tired after a big lunch), and I can concentrate for longer. During conversations, I'm more engaged and a better listener. I play games such as ping pong and notice my reaction time is improved. The most amazing aspect of the combination is that the effects last almost the entire day. I usually take both around noon and I'm good until 11/12pm at least. Overall I'm very satisfied to have found something that works over several hours at a time and without any major swings or drops in efficacy.

The only downsides is that I feel a little too wired for the first several hours. I know my heart rate is slighly up by 5+ bpm too. I also experience the common side effects of dry mouth and nausea, and am not sure if they are going away significantly.

I'm also little concerned that the strattera sample pack I have is designed to ramp up in 4 dosage sizes from 18mg to 60mg. Considering how I feel 18mg is already quite powerful, I'd rather not continue to a higher dose.

notes: I'm a lighter guy, mid 20's, with history of mild depression.

Hmm, you only use 5mg of modafinil per day? A single pill contains 100mg or 200mg so that is a very low dose of Modafinil, or was it just a typo?

hey calengineering,

I was considering trying the above combination too. DO you still use it? Is it still working for you?

IME this combo is highly nootropic and it's probably the best I've tried for my ADHD. To potentiate it further, throw in nicotine and selegiline. Unfortunately very dysphoric as well.. good for exam cramming though.

Hey thanks for the reply,

Could modafinil counter the somnolence produced by Strattera?

Did it work that way for you?

Were you using any other racetams along by any chance? Im wondering if this combo would affect racetam stack in anyway

What doses worked for you?

This is a really useful post.

I'm currently an inpatient with a history of Depressive disorder, emotionally unstable personality traits and Inattentive ADHD (among other less clinically significant things).

I'm currently taking 10mg BID of Tranlycpromine and am looking for another 'ADHD' med to add to the mix as well as to increase the dose of the MAOI. I am considering Modafinil, Atamoxatine, Clonidine, Methlyphenidate and to a lesser extent bupropion.

The research on combinational strategies for ADHD is sparse and focused only on Stim plus non stim so its good to hear of two non stims having an effect.

Hey Tom, hope you're doing well!

I would perhaps suggest that you should wait till more people chip in, as this combination users are almost negligible (calengineering doesnt seem to be active nowadays).

Also i think when you combine with an MAOI, you should be very careful even if its a pill not proven to cause seratonin syndrome.

Maybe modafinil has some seratonin actions? They havent fully understood the mechanisms of modafinil yet.

Just an opinion

It in fact does: http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC2654794/

Although it is clearly not an extremely serotonergic drug given lack of any "comedown".

Oh man, I would LOVE to hear more about this too!

I'm currently on:

NSI-189 20 mg

Duloxetine 20 mg (titrating out)

Atomoxetine 30 mg

Lisdexamphetamine 20 mg

And I'm DEAD f***ing tired! I tried Atomoxetine with only Duloxetine for a few days, and the first day on 10 mg ATX I felt CLEAR honey-moon improvement! At least 35% better, but with NO anxiety! I truly thought this would work...

Day two however, NO effect whatsoever... honey-moon was over, as always. On day 3 I had moving to be done, so I went straight to 30 mg! WOW! Effect once more - at least a 40% improvement from my normal SCT+Burnout -state! Probably the best drug I've ever used for that lone day.

Now however, day 4 of 30 mg, I feel very little once more... instead, any of the benefits are clouded by fatigue from both Atomoxetine and NSI-189... -_-

I feel like crap once more.

The reason I added NSI-189 once again, btw, was because I felt emotionally shut off at around day 3 of ATX - I figured NSI-189 would help with emotions returning - AND, I also feel as if I need more treatment for my depression and burnout - both caused by Hippocampal atrophy.

Yet, all of the benefits of these drugs are clouded by somnolence! Mutherfrack!!

I tried adding the Vyvanse back in, after a few weeks without it, and it actually worked on the first day! Somnolence gone - drive and will back! Except now, day two, it's completely gone again... Somnolence is back.

The only thing I've used in the past which has helped with somnolence induced from other drugs is MODAFINIL - helped with day-time somnolence from Mirtazapine (you'd figure, what with the histamine-agonism) as well as being the most incredible synnergy I have ever used when combined with NSI-189!

FANTASTIC!

Yet I don't have it now, but if it could help with this somnolence... man, that would be great!

I really find it synergistic with a combo of phenylpiracetam and coluracetam.  The only issues I have a huge need for choline and a desire to redose phenypiracetam in the afternoon.

Fantastic workout combo btw.
