I recently began giving Sarcosine to a family member who has dementia. She would talk to herself and sometimes become angry. Not sure if its text book schizophrenia or just dementia. Have been giving 1/2 tsp ( about 1.4g ) Sarcosine daily in the AM and 700mg in the evening. It along with Uridine seems to help quite a bit. Tub says up to 3g a day.

Omega 3, Magnesiym glycinate, Creatine, Taurine and Nac I aslo add to the morning dosage.

Has anyone used Sarcosine long term? I cannot find much on it other than one study that used 2g daily that resulted in improved symptoms for people with schizophrenia.

Not sure if this needs to be cycled or if its possible to do damage over the long term. Believe it to be safe.

Anyone find any additional information or have any experiences with it?

I would also love to hear some accounts of long term sarcosine use. I've read some good ones on some of the schizophrenia boards. Some indicating low tolerance and efficacy up to 12 hours at a time.

So far after 6 days I am really enjoying sarcosine. I'm taking it primarily for anxiety and depression.

Thanks ya, I participated in that thread actually. Its really not so big and there are no 1st hand "long term" user accounts. It is more of theoretical and short term anecdotes. As a Physician with training in molecular biology, these mean little to me. Up and down regulation of various genes over time controlling everything from enzymes, receptors, intracellular messengers to name a few make short term reports or reports that specify no time frame of little value.

Did you end up running into tolerance issues with Sarcosine?

I've always had good effects from acute Sarcosine usage. However, it's half life is a bit of a joke, so dosing three times a day was always an effort that I struggled to keep up with. The taste of it hardly makes you keep going back for more, too.

I am schizophrenic and have been using Sarcosine since (I think) march 2011 and it still works like day one (negative symptoms, cognitive symptoms, little for mood and some psychiatric symptoms I don't know even what it was but it were very debilitating symptoms that made my life a hell)! I only take 2-3g a day, I don't know about other conditions but from what I understand from Sarcosine is that it works at it best in low dosages (2x2g a day is the proven benefit dose in schizophrenia study's). Same counts for Bitopertin (an upcoming drug with same mechanism action as Sarcosine, a Glyt1 inhibitor, though, without a Sarcosine moiety, a unique chemical created by Roche Pharma and even in their study's, low dosages improved over high dosages). I can acknowledge this because I experienced it too, when first trying to find the right dosage Sarcosine I went up to 6-8g a day and made me feel very uncomfortable, it took away the benefits from Sarcosine.

I went 2 times off Sarcosine (each time a month) and 2 times I went in a terrible acute "psychotic/psychiatric" phase.

Adverse effects of Sarcosine: none!

Questions?

btw do a search on schizophrenia.com on YoungSchizo (that's me) I've been praising and sharing my Sarcosine experiences ever since taking it!

@YoungS - great to hear you're doing well on sarcosine! I suffer from severe OCD (unrelenting obsessive anxiety) and am wondering about using sarcosine as well. How do you take your 2x2g a day - capsule? mix with liquid? How quickly after starting did you notice benefits? Again, glad you're doing well. TIA

@aprkak

I only use 2/3 a day, 2x2g works best for schizophrenia.. I did a quick search on Sarcosine and OCD, at 2grams a day there was seen benefits, though, with OCD (particularly treatment resistant OCD) counts, the longer you take it, the more benefits you will see from Sarcosine.. Anyway, I scoop it in my mouth and wash it away, it has a sweet sugarish taste (Sarcosine is non-toxic btw).. good luck!
