We tried heirloom seeds in our garden last year (similar to survival seeds). The good news is that they work! You can grow food and harvest seeds for next year.
The bad news - you can't beat science it seems (anyway that is what we found out with our trial). Hybrids/GMOs produce a higher rate of germination, bigger plants, and more yield. That is why most of the world uses them.
