Hi everyone,

Anyone want to take a look at this study and tell us what it means for those of us who are choosing to supplement with Tyrosine?

http://www.jneurosci.../1/290.full.pdf

It seems to indicate (admittedly through a study on the use of MDMA) that Tyrosine is partly responsible for depletion of Serotonin in MDMA users. Does that mean it is not a viable supplement for long term use for those on this board?

L-Phenylalanine is generally the dopamine precursor of the choice for those worried about long term effects. I'm on my phone, sorry for the lack of source info, but you can find it by searching.

Since I don't use MDMA I'm not worried. A study showing that just tyrosine did this would be very surprising.

ah ok. but i can tell be you take care with tryptophan then. anyway i dont like it much but if you take it, your body prefers to metabolize it before tyrosine. so it will make you very tired. think because of the serotonin and melatonin but also you lose the effect of the dopamine/noradrenaline....

L-Tyrosine doesn't cause a depletion of Serotonin, but high doses of L-Tyrosine sort of "take up the bandwidth" of the precursor-synthesis,
so if high doses of L-Tyrosine is used, there's not enough space for the Serotonin precursor L-Tryptophan to be turned into serotonin.

And i guess, with the use of MDMA, there would be a depletion in serotonin since there is not enough L-Tryptophan being turned into serotonin due to lack of "bandwidth", so to say.
