I'm concocting my morning gag drink and am wondering if I should add TMG. I know there are many purported benefits, but also some side-effects. Do you guys have any experience here to contribute with? I read the few threads about it, but nothing really thorough or conclusive there...

My LDL is a tad high, and I know that can be an issue. Also, I'm taking Ginseng, Selegiline and coffee (in the way of stimulants), and I don't want it to overstimulate me. Maybe that can be addressed with lowering the dose, not sure.

Any experiences?

I tried it for elevated homocysteine, too many horse pills, and not effective. I take one 5 methyl folate capsule, 1000 mcg, and it dropped my level from 11 to 7. I have not read anything that shows that TMG directly lowers LDL.

Kevn, I mention that I have elevated LDL because I heard that TMG can worsen that, not improve it.

I loved TMG. Awesome antidepressant effect for me, but unfortunately, it is extremely stimulating in my case. So, even though it made me feel like a million bucks throughout the day, it was a bitch to sleep on. I tried sticking with it for three days before throwing in the towell. I would sleep 3/4 hrs a night at most. Mellow supps like reishi, ashwagandha and holy basil wouldn't touch it. Only alcohol or benzos would have any efficacy in initiating sleep. I couldn't go on like that even though I felt great. Would tolerance of come into play eventually? Most probably, like most things.

I tried lower doses to no avail.

Interestingly, I have tried 3 or 4 SAM-e supplements and never once had effects that even closely resemble my experience with trimethylglycine. TMG, is what I would of expected SAM-e to be like. I always found SAM a bit mellow and serotonergic. Not much stimulation, but it was still anxiogenic as hell.

Thor,

What does TMG did you use? I have used a gram or two a day and honestly didn't feel squat.

I do feel really good with SAM-e, but then after a few days the effects decline, then if I keep taking SAM-e I actually feel really depressed. I always assumed this was from SAM-e raising homocytesteine, but even with taking TMG, B12, and folic acid I still feel awful with SAMe if I take it for more then a few days.

I have debated trying higher does TMG, but I have read studies which indicate if you take more then a couple grams it can start harming your cholesterol profile.

Actually, I think niacin increases homocysteine levels. I am looking to decrease mine to counter my niacin intake. So did methyl folate lower your homocysteine levels?

I take niacin to raise my HDL levels. . As I previously posted, the most effective supplement for reducing my homocysteine , is 5 methyl folate. ( from 11 to 7 ) It's anecdotal of course, my experience only.
