Self Induced Psychosis

choco's Photo choco 08 Dec 2012

Hello, everyone!

I 've made this post to adress the issue of self induced psychosis. Drugs, nootropics, sleep deprivation are common sources of the disease. I made a quick search and found some members that had faced psychotic outbursts through the use of certain nootropics. So I would like to learn more things about that situation, has anyone of you experienced anything similar?
  • How did it happen?
  • How did you manage it?
  • How it affected you?

Thanks in advance.

Insomnia triggered it for me. I have bipolar disorder and once, during a hypomanic phase, I slept for 1 hour each night for about 5 nights. My head was just frying and the last night, I began to have auditory and visual hallucinations. Light ones, not that frightening, but still disturbing.
I saw world very dream-like and heard my name being called although noone was there. I was very paranoid.

How did I stop it? At that time I wasn't properly medicated, so I desperately tried to cut my insomnia streak with 50 mg promethazine, and fortunately it worked.
