Hi.

Could someone please show me some articles that shows that calorie restriction increased longevity? I am not looking for some fasting aricles, but rather some articles that says that restricting calories will raise expect life expectancy. This guy I know claims that increased longevity from calorie restriction is not possible, and I want to prove him wrong.

Thanks for answering

Search this sub forum. There are numerous links to various studies as well as a wealth of information.

It certainly works for worms, flies, and mice. For humans, I'm not so sure. Not so long ago, I would have pointed to the excellent health markers of CRONies, but I'm just not so sure anymore. There was a long term primate experiment that failed to show significant life extension, but it was so flawed I'm not really sure what one can take from it. I guess all I can say is that robust life extension from CR in humans has not yet been demonstrated.

If the guy you know thinks that CR couldn't possibly work, period, well... he's clearly wrong. If he thinks that it won't work in humans, I don't think he can be proven wrong at this time. He might even be right.

Here's a post talking about CR in dogs. It's the most advanced species that has demonstrated CR longevity in a lab setting. The monkey studies seem to have lots of problems that are discussed at length in the thread, so I wouldn't base any conclusions on them yet. CR studies have been successfully completed with yeast, fish, birds, mice, dogs and I think cats too. There's a study going on in lemurs and one more monkey study yet to be completed. I also seem to remember reading about a study in bears, but I can't find it off hand.

If it was still the middle ages, we'd just put some surfs in a cage and figure it out that way.
