Here is an article written with Brian Peskin. He has made the study of dietary fats, cardiovascular disease and cancer his life's work. His opinions are controversial but interesting. I read one of his books, The Hidden Cause of Cancer.
" The Failure of Vytorin and Statins to Improve Cardiovascular Health: Bad Cholesterol or Bad Theory?"

Good stuff.

No longer can physicians conclude that their patients will thrive
using statins. The overwhelming evidence demonstrates the best
medical advice is to caution patients on the tremendous limitations
of statins; specifically, that when 67 patients are treated with a statin
protocol over 5 years, 66 patients will experience no benefit—a
98% failure rate. As dismal as this number is, it does not take into
account the substantial additional risks associated with prolonged
statin usage

I don't normally post articles from Life Extension, in fact I don't think I ever have. I read this article today during lunch and thought of this thread. This is only for those that believe prescription drugs like statins should be a last resort, not the first choice.
Full disclosure, after trying only natural products to lower my cholesterol I opted to use low dose simvastatin. It should be noted that William Falloon ,Life Extensions president also takes simvastatin .
I still take some red yeast rice and slow release niacin.

The authors even appeared on Dr Oz. Is the message finally getting to the public?

Why no mention of homocysteine? It may be a more predictive indicator than total cholesterol.
