Hallo

I am new here and this is my first post.

I recently read the bok Growing Young with M.D. Marcus Gitterle, and found it extremly interesting.
I have not been into this kind of information so much before but have as many others been very open for
what supplements and alternative medicine can accomplish.

The expIanations and directions in the book made very much sense to me, and I decided that this is the way I want to go.
I am 55 year. Not in so bad shape. But have started to feel fatigue and brain fog and some stiffness in the body.

My mom who is 83 years is in a much worser condition. And I really want to do something to help here.
She has dementia, had stroke 10 years ago, she still up and going but her balanse has started to get so bad so she may fall anytime and anywhere.
Her short time memory is almost not working at all anymore, She have much anxiety, fears, problem to speek, extrem fatigue some days,
depressions and so on....
Frankly, she dont want to live anymore then she find the quality of here life so dimished.

One week ago I got the most of the supplements that are recomended in the book from Iherb. But first spoke to her doctor about my plans then she is on blodthinning medications.
We dont live in the same city and I have 10 miles to here so last weekend I went to here with supplements for one week all carefully packed in daily doses bags.

My plan is to call here every evening and remind here of taking the supplements and then every weekend go and visit here and give here a new weekly dose bags.
This was not an easy task. Because she could not first understand why I wanted her to take the supplements. But finally she agrees to take
them over phone and went to the kitchen to take them, but forgot on here way to the kitchen what she was supposed to do.
After some veeeryyyy long phonecalls she finally managed to take the supplement until friday, then she had moved the bags somewhere and could not find them again.

I visited her today again and found out some great improvments has happend in this short time span (less then a week). Her balanse is much better. It doesnt look like
she will fall the next second anymore. It was mcuh easier to have a chat with her, she spoke much better. She had a more healty glove in her face. When I asked her
how she felt sha said that she felt really good and she had a lot of more energy. And I could se that to. We had a really nice meeting and she laught a lot,
something she has not done for a very long time. Her short time memory seems also a little bit affected in a positive way.

My own experience after a week on the supplements from the book are not so dramatic as hers. But then I am not in such bad shape either.
But I do feel more grounded and the fatigue has started to dissepear. I really enjoyed my work this week feeling much more mentally sharper.

I plan to come back and report how its going with the regime from Gitterles book. My first aim is to help my mom, but I also find it intresting
to se if/what supplements can do for eldery in bad physical shape.

Trying to help someone else by getting them to take supplements is very frustrating. You can't prove they will help. Because "proof" is what doctors call FDA approval, even though that is not really proof. If you ask your doctor they might say, "well, that's never been proven safe or effective." That's true, but it doesn't mean there's no evidence it's safe and effective. Most supplements will never be FDA approved. Many of the benefits are for disease prevention, and you cannot prove that a supplement prevented a disease in one person. If they never get a particular disorder, it's always possible they would never have developed it either way. Even if it does help for some condition, they will likely decide any improvement in their conditions is just random and not from the supplements. If someone isn't aware of the studies and doesn't appreciate the evidence and the potential, it's really hard to convince them.

Hi Evagirl, welcome to Longecity! I'm glad that your mother responded so well. What supplements did you give her?

Glad to hear of your proactive intervention. Starting is half the battle. Attitude is everything.

Don't forget that exercise is very good for health no matter what age. If your mother has poor balance she can still do exercises while sitting down.

Hi
And thanks for some responses. :)

The supplements I give her (and me) seems to be much the same that are diskussed in this forum.
NAC
Beta Alanine
PQQ
Resveratrol
L-lysine
Arginine
Curcumin
ALCAR
Vitamin D
Multivitamin
Omega3

It is no megadoses of anything. I so like the book, for even if I could have found out much of it here on the
forum, it would have taken me a lot of time that I really dont have.

In the regime is also included exercise and soms changes from ordinary diet.
But regarding my mom I have to take one step at the time. But if/when the supplements improves her condition enough
I will go on and somehow also implement this very importent changes to.

Anyway, the downhill journey for here seems to have changed to an upphill climbing.
She called me today and asked if we could go out some day and do some shopping :|o
Thats a small miracle. Shopping is nothing she have had in here mind the last year or two.
And I am amazed over how much easier it is to speak with here.

What I really hope for is that her short time memory will improve. Thats what has bothered here most.
She is so aware of that the brain doesnt work anymore and have lost all here confidence in her self.
It all has now started to look good and lets hope it will continue so.
If this will work on here then I will have all the prove I ever need to continue this regime for my self.

Hi again

Now I have been taken this supplements and given it to my mother for 2 weeks.

Regarding my mom, i'ts a miracle that is happening.
She now remembers to take the supplement by her self during the day,
We can have more and more "normal" conversesions.
Her short time memory is still not good, but it it so much better then before.
Her energy levels has increased a lot. No more depressions during the last week.
And her balance continue to improve.

I am so happy to se her transformation. She really hate to take all this vitamin caps.
But she does it then she also notice the difference in her level of wellbeing.

The difference for me is not so huge with taking this supplements, but it doesn't matter.
I now know they will protect me from many age related problems.

My next step for my mother is now to figure out some way to make her start some form of easy exercise.

Interesting you didn't list Lipoic Acid or CoQ10. Which multivitamin did you pick?

The multivitamin is Twinlab, Daily One Caps, Without Iron.
CoQ10 belongs to the regime, but I have yet not started to give that to her due to
one deliverance that did never arrive from Iherb. I had to reorder it and hope it comes this week.
Lipoic Acid is not in my regime list.

As I said earlier, I dont have the knowledge about this supplements for this purpose,
I make it easy for me and just follow the recomendations from the book Growing Young.

Another thing, If anyone have any suggestions or ideas about some kind of exercise that
could be possible that a very old lady mayby could accept to do, I am more then willing to listen :)
