I took Adrafinil the other day for the first time. However it's as though it always makes me tired (also disoriented). Here's how it went:

06 March 2013( I had woken up at 1600 on 5 March 2013)

My package of 10g of Adrafinil came in the mail around 1300. I had ordered this a week earlier on EBay from NootraBioLabs.
I prepared my station to make 00 size capsules. I made 50 capsules, each one containing approximately 200mg of Adrafinil,
with a standard deviation of approximately 30mg. I did take into consideration the mass of the capsules themselves, which is
on average 110mg.

The capsules were finished around 1430.

*I would like to note the smell of the Adrafinil; it smelled very sweet with a strong scent of some chemical similar to the blue asthma inhalers (Salbutamol, Ventolin
Terbutaline, Bricanyl **??)

It was now 1600, and I had been awake for about 24 hours (I was cramming for midterms for that day and I had a dinner/ ceremony to go to that evening).
I had separated out approximately 50mg from one capsule into another for my first go. As the evening progressed, I noticed certain levels of my tiredness alleviate.
By 1730 my body was still feeling dreadfully tired (that sharp chill feeling of being pale), but my mind was much more awake. I had started to become more talkative,
attentive, and focussed.

I had stayed until 1930. When I got home around 2100 I fell asleep very fast.

07 March 2013

I woke up feeling wonderful around 0600. It was the best nights rest I had had in 10 months.
I had my breakfast, took some vitamins, fish oil, and ColdFX, then popped the pill that had the remaining 150mg of Adrafinil.
I took the next bus and made it to school for 0700. I wanted to go study in the library for a midterm that day at 1100.

At around 0800, I started to feel a buzzing tiredness with no desire to sleep. This went on for hours, into and beyond my midterm.

I got home around 1400, and took a 200mg capsule thinking that it might help a bit.
It did help about an hour later, and lasted for a few hours.

At around 1800, the buzzing tiredness came back. I proceeded to ignore it as I continued school work.

I went to bed around 2100 again.

08 March 2013

I had woken up at about 0430, feeling tired and groggy. I assume it was due to the slight lack of sleep.

My morning went similar to the way it did the day previous, only starting at 0430. I had continued my morning with Lumosity and
homework. At around 0900, I again started to feel that buzzing tiredness. I made it to school for 1030 for a lab at 1100.

After my lab I, noticed that as I was walking, I was veering. I could only tell that I was veering visually, not through fluid motion in
the semi-circular canals in the ears. Needless to say, I was becoming slightly disoriented.

I got home around 1300

At about 1400, I was so tired that I had to go to sleep. I considered popping another Adrafinil, but decided not to.

I woke up again at 1600. Proceeded with a boring Friday evening and went to sleep at 2000.

09 March 2013

I woke up at 0530.

I have yet to take Adrafinil or my vitamins.

It is now 0752 and I think at 0800 I am going to take my vitamins and an Adrafinil.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the effects of Adrafinil continue the way they are, I am going to have to stop using it.

I have also ordered some Modafinil from ModUp.Net. It's only a generic version of Provigil. I won't expect that
to arrive for another month. This is partly the reason I purchased Adrafinil. I wanted to get a sense of what
Modafinil was like before I tried it.

My initial reaction to the smell of Adrafinil was suspicion. I searched up the smell of it, but could only find
answers that I could not relate my experiences with. As I said earlier, to me it smells very sweet with a
strong scent of a blue asthma inhaler (Salbutamol, Ventolin Terbutaline, Bricanyl**??).

Due to my experiences, I wonder if what I have is not of good quality.

This is the exact same effect I got from adrafinil when I first tried it earlier this week.

On the first day I started out with 300 mg, felt very little, then took an additional 300 mg and got sleepy with absolutely no stimulation or cognitive enhancement. On day two, i took 900 mg and it made me feel unpleasantly stimulated. By day three, 600 mg made me feel a nonstop adrenaline rush that culminated in hypertension and chest pains

I suspect that this drug responds to "priming" or has an issue with reverse tolerance. Today I took only 300 mg, and I'm getting tons of really sharp energy from that dose. I'm not sure what biochemical factors could be involved with adrafinil's wildly varying effects, but maybe it has something to do with the process through which it's converted to modafinil in the body.

I'm not sure what you mean by priming or reverse tolerance. Could you please elaborate?

If by priming you mean it takes time for the drug to properly function, this may be true. I had read in several places that it takes around two weeks of daily use to see the benefits of adrafinil. The problem with that is that adrafinil is bad for your liver, even short term (ie. 2 months). I know I will be seeing a doctor after one month of use.

Also, the refining process in the body could be a huge factor to the noted varying effects. Perhaps adrafinil is not always converted in to modafinil, but also other chemicals; A situation where the OH group is not the only thing that is disjointed from adrafinil.

As I had said I would, I had taken 200mg of adrafinil around 0800. I didn't notice the effects coming on until about
1000. I had gone out all day, just enjoying myself with some company. The entire day I felt very good. I was talkative,
energetic, focussed, attentive, all of those positive mental qualities. However I did still have a slight feeling of a
buzzing sensation throughout my body for most of the time. This lasted until about 1630. I got home around 1700,
watched some TV, and was dead tired by 1930. I didn't want to fall asleep too early, so I forced myself to stay up
another hour, and fell asleep at around 2030.

Today is March 10, and I am going to try 400mg at about 1000. I expect the effects to take place between 1045-1200.

I've never actually looked up the definition of these terms, but I think I understand their meaning from the context in which I've seen them used on drug/supplement forums.

Reverse tolerance refers to the phenomenon when you introduce a new drug to your system and it doesn't yield very noticeable results even when you take large doses, but after taking it a few times you'll suddenly get very pronounced effects from small amounts.

Priming is when a substance requires you to take it daily for about a week before you start feeling its effects.

Both of these could be due to psychological or biochemical factors. It's difficul to tell. I know from personal experience that expectations and mindset have a lot to do with how a person perceives the effects of a mood altering drug.
