Hi there you guys seem really smart about all these supplements :) could you please tell me if L-Carnitine specifically Acetyl-L-carnitine or ALCAR is safe to take and are there any reasons for me not to take it, I am 19 years old and basically I am worried that if I take it I will like become dependant on it and if I stop then my cognition may drop further than baseline or drop in a way that makes me feel dumb ;o is this true

From what I have seen, heard, and tried, Acetyl-L-Carnitine has no known side effects at recommended dosages; however, you should consult a doctor before taking it with any thyroid medications or prescription drugs.

I have read somewhere that ALCAR can induce long term structural changes in the brain - so quite the opposite, your cognition may be improved after cessation.

Awhile back I remember reading that ALCAR could provoke hairloss by inducing p75 nerve growth factor
