Hi there you guys seem really smart about all these supplements :) could you please tell me if L-Carnitine specifically Acetyl-L-carnitine or ALCAR is safe to take and are there any reasons for me not to take it, I am 19 years old and basically I am worried that if I take it I will like become dependant on it and if I stop then my cognition may drop further than baseline or drop in a way that makes me feel dumb ;o is this true

Nope, I personally find that ALCAR has minimal effects on my cognition... I've been taking this stuff for 1 year (along with Omega 3) and I've never felt any sort of detectable change in my cognition, intelligence and memory until I added racetams to my daily lot of supplements.

I used to use ALCAR 4 years ago, stopped after a year and only recently started again to give it another try (along with racetams) and honestly, there's not much difference in anything with or without it. You won't become dependant on it and your cognition will not drop when you stop taking it. The only reason i'm still taking it now is because I'm finishing off the 2.5kg bag I bought... =_=

It doesn't seem to cause any withdrawal/rebound symptoms. If you take it for a long time and then suddenly quit, you'll just go back to how you normally were before you started taking it. Most of these supplements aren't like street drugs, they don't hurt your brain.
