Does anyone know why these two studies report opposite results?

Basically, the first study shows a hepatoprotective effect of beta-alanine on the liver from carbon tetrachloride exposure. The second study shows that beta-alanine increases the toxic activity from carbon tetrachloride.

Maybe I am just reading it wrong?

*EDIT: quote for clarity

The enhanced availability of cysteine for synthesis of glutathione and/or taurine appears to account for the hepatoprotective effects of beta-alanine against CCl4-induced liver injury.

Treatment of animals with β-alanine increases the hepatotoxicity of single doses of CCL4 as determined histologically and by measurement of serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels

I'm guessing they just used different ways of measuring it. Not sure what to make of it all.
