I just bought some phenylpiracetam based off of Wikipedia's notes that it induces a fair bit of receptor upregulation (dopamine, GABA, etc). The thing is, it erroneously stated that phenylpiracetam upregulates NMDA and Nicotinic Acetylcholine receptors, which I found when reviewing the cited source, it actually does the opposite (for just those two receptors. The source did say it upregulated several subtypes of dopamine and GABA), and causes downregulation of NMDA and nACH receptors by a moderate amount, which makes sense considering it's an nACH agonist. I went ahead and corrected the article.
My question is, is the tradeoff worth regular supplementation? I have ADD, so I was thrilled by the idea of upregulating my dopamine receptors by appreciable amounts, and I wouldn't mind sensitizing GABA receptors as well (I think that might help innately reduce anxious tendencies). Wikipedia doesn't really describe the purpose of Nicotinic Acetylcholine receptors, so it's difficult for me to figure out how downregulating them might affect me. I'm not so worried about the NMDA downregulation, as I figure that the fact I take racetams, some of which have NMDA activity (i.e Sunifiram), will compensate for this (plus I take magnesium supplements, which apparently have mild NMDA antagonist effects).
So thoughts anyone? Will downregulating nACH receptors have any appreciable negative effects on my cognitive abilities?
