There is one double-blind randomized trial that found 600mg of Milk Thistle Extract to be as good as 30mg of Fluoxetine after 8 weeks: http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/20035818

It's only a small study and it wasn't placebo controlled, but sounds promising nevertheless. The flavanoid complex silymarin has been shown to increase serotonin levels in the cortex and interestingly to ameliorate decreases in dopamine and serotonin in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus associated with methamphetamine abuse.

Silymarin has maoi-properties, as mentioned in this study: http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21352883

Has anyone tried Milk Thistle for anxiety problems, especially for OCD?

This is a fascinative topic, homopharma. Thanks for sharing.

Do you think that the mechanism of action here relates to Milk Thistle and NAC increasing glutathione and thereby reducing inflammation?

Pretty much as expected given the fact that fluoxetine is about as effective as placebo.

Except it's very effective for me whereas Silymarin is not, so YMMV as always

Wow that might worth a shot. but I'm always skeptical about those studies comparing anything to SSRI with always this moderate success that doesn't mean at the end much thing.

I think both together is acceptable as better then ether by themselves, studies show that Milk Thistle effects the way the liver processes Fluoxetine making it more potent.
