Hello there,

There's a lot of clever folk here with a lot more experience than me. For a while now i have been experiencing a number of cognitive difficulties. I've been researching solutions, and diets and such and the wealth of theories and explanations.

Basically my diet has been poor for a long time with lots of sugar and caffeine and i experience a lot of stress that does not help.

Im in the process of "sorting my self out". I am currently researching the best kind of diet and exercise regimen to start out with.
I've been reading lots about the paleo diet and though i question some of the philosophy behind it, some of the research into gluten and inflammation looks sound.

Basically what i'm asking is what would the basic outline look like for someone wanting to improve overall brain fitness?

What would the ideal diet look like?
What sort of exercise regime would optimise BDNF?
What sort of mental exercises would one include in the day?
What sort of supplements would you recommend?

What are the basic fundamentals that most people agree upon for overall brain fitness?

Or are there any threads that already discuss this?

Thanks

Bob

Well, I can really only answer one of your questions of the top of my head. The best form of exercise to promote BDNF is resistance/strength training.

intermittent sprinting
heavy weight training
strict paleo diet(not because of gluten)
diaphramic breathing stimulates the vagus nerve thereby increasing bdnf
magic mushrooms increase bdnf and were recently proven to grow new brain cells
listening to or playing complex or emotional music
I had some measurable sucess with n-pep-12 but it gave me insomnia
same with icariin, i'm very prone to insomnia though.

basically anything that makes you feel good in life increases bdnf it seems to coincide with endorphin release though there are probably exceptions
