I just started taking Himalaya's Bacopa supplements a few days ago for anxiety and hopefully an improvement in memory.  I started out taking one pill per day, as indicated on the bottle, but after doing some research it looks like 3 pills per day would be equivalent to what was used in studies that showed its efficacy, so I upped my dosage yesterday.  Is this safe?  I've found it very sedating and is GREAT for sleep.  This poses two problems, however.  1)  Could daily use (which is what is recommended for memory enhancement) lead to dependance?  and, 2)Will taking it at night help mitigate the problems with drowsiness I've noticed when taking it in the am?  Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi I'm a new user here but I have also been taking Himalaya's Bacopa Monnieri for a couple of monthsto help my ADHD and general anxiety disorder. I noticed an acutely dramatic decrease in anxiety levels like it never even existed. I also noticed very good recall and generally better memory. After a couple of weeks the effects became more chronic where if I missed a dose, I would still feel calm enough to function. However I read that it actually reduces dopamine in the prefrontal cortex and attenuates rises as well. ADHD is generally believed to be the result of low dopamine levels in the prefrontal cortex.

I tried Ginkgo Biloba at the same time because it increases dopamine. But then I read another medical study showing that Bacopa and ginkgo confounded each other. I stopped Bacopa after my bottle ran out and my anxiety has been unbearable. That's currently happening while I write this. I'm betting to decrease my anxiety levels but its supposed to be general and it has been 2 weeks and my anxiety has shown no sign of lowering.

I've been battling severe anxiety, which was actually starting to calm down slightly after a few months .. but over the past few days have had an awful resurgence (3 hours sleep a night; constantly on the verge of panic). I couldn't work out what might have triggered it, but then realized I took Bacopa for a few days in a row last week. The effects at the time weren't very dramatic -- mostly less stress and better well-being, mood and focus -- but I've been wondering if it might have caused some kind of withdrawal.

I wasn't going to post anything, because I thought it was silly, but then saw your message Ryan95. Maybe it does have the potential for causing withdrawal symptoms, particularly in those vulnerable.
