I just began dermarolling and it surely hurts. I am currently using retin A and have been using it for 6 months now. I was wondering if any of you think that dermarolling + retin A for a year or so could help, in a synergistic type of way, lessen nasolabial folds?

I hear of many talking about Fie lines, but I was wondering about actual folds though. Any experiences? I have used the search function and cannot find very specific answers in regards to these folds wit the use of retin A or a dermaroller, or both.

Anybody?

I've dermarolled for 3 years and used Retin-A for over 20 years. I've read a bunch on the subject of each. I can't honestly think once that I've read that either helps much at all with nasolabial folds. You'll have better luck with facial exercises IMO.

Well I suppose the forum you psted makes good sense. But you don't seem to think that either of these products can even slightly diminish these folds (I'd say modestly, 20 or so percent?) I ask because mine ( I am 22 years old), are relatively light and they have gotten slightly worse over years of never using sunscreen, so I was hoping that the collagen building of Retin A plus the collegen building from dermarolling, could generally help these folds a bit, as I am very sure that some of these nasolabial folds I am experiencing, are due to loss of collagen... Any input

Highly doubtful at 22 it is being caused by loss of collagen. I'm over twice your age with no folds. Likely genetic. You could give the Dermaroller a try but is is generally not advisable to Dermaroll at such a young age. I would suggest using a Dermastamp on the folds only. I still think it is a long shot you will see any real results.

I do believe its loss of collagen as I have been outside everyday for the past 2 years for my job with no sunscreen, and I also do alot of office work in which my computer is right in front of my window so my whole face gets hit. I just recently started wearing sunscreen (Also I have taken befoe and after photos, and it has been 7 months with retin A and so far, the fold on my right is Slightly, yet noticeably less visible, the bottom quarter inch of it has disappeared.......... two years ago I never had these folds, even my mom has noticed them and commented.

What kind of facial exercises?

I heard that making those exercises basically only makes wrinkles worse.

I do them mainly from this program. http://www.agelessifyoudare.org/

I also do a specific exercise from a very popular program called "Flexeffect". It's called cross-stretching. I also throw in some facial massage.

It is possible for facial exercise to make matters worse. Just like the wrong kind of exercising in general can make things worse. Think jogging....col

Did you buy those programs? Or are there free exercises available?

I'm hesitant to buy something without knowing if it works.

Bought the Ageless one. There are many free exercises on Youtube. Trouble is knowing which ones to do and if they are effective or not. Impossible. All you can really do is do some serious research and see what seems to be working for others. Much of it is faith. I do them for preventive purposes. I'm 47. Have been doing them for a few years. Can't say what it has done for me cause my skin was great before I started. Still is. It sure has not made it worse. You can be sure your local Derm will not endorse them. Imagine that. $$$$$$

I have a facial gymnastics dvd but many of the exercises look exactly the same even though they have different names.

I also can't really tell if I'm even making the exercises correctly or if I'm really hitting the right muscles.

Wouldn't it be easier to use one of these machines which work out the muscles in the face with electric impulses?

Suzanne Somers would sure like you to believe that. :)

It may be easier but less effective IMO. Of course, depends on the program/exercise.

Are there any videos online maybe at youtube which show some exercises which you're personally doing?

Maybe some people don't have the right muscle control to even profit from facial gymnastics. When I tried to do the exercises on my dvd

I couldn't really feel the muscles which I wanted to target and this way there's also no way of even knowing if I'm doing it right or not. This is

discouraging.

There are days when my naso labial folds are very evident and other days when everythings tight with no folds.

Thats with no excercise programme at all.

Nope you have to pay for the program. I think they have a DVD that shows you how to do the exercises correctly. Was not an option when I bought the book several years ago. The thing I really like about the Ageless program is you get really intense with the muscles being exercised. Well there is this pretty bad video she has. Can't really learn much from it. I think I got a lil crush on her.....meow.......50??? momma mea :-D
