Hey,

I'm trying to wrap my head around something My basic understanding is that sulbutiamine works by causing an increase in dopamine receptor density (after initially making less dopamine available to the brain, so that the feedback reaction occurs). However, it seems like that would take hours or longer to play out, or am I wrong? Does it actually play out quickly and that's what is responsible for the quick, acute effects?

I have noticed that every time I take sulbutiamine, I do get a boost that day, but the next day is where it really shines for me. After I get out of bed I feel great (this never happens) and my libido is noticeably higher. It's not really an energy thing.. I just feel good. Is this the receptor density effect, and perhaps I'm feeling something else acutely?

If anyone could shed some light on what might be happening (I know it's all speculation) that would be great. I've only come across a few nootropics/supplements that I get any noticeable benefit from, so when something affects me this drastically I try to figure out why. I'd love to be able to replicate this effect long-term. I have no idea if this "positive hangover" from the sulbutiamine goes away or not, but from all the anecdotal reports about tolerance I just figured that was the case.

Thanks

Just a quick addition.. I'm starting to wonder if it's just that I have a slight thiamine deficiency, and/or the process of normal dietary thiamine reaching my brain has a hiccup somewhere. I am not seeing any anecdotal reports that are similar to mine.

Just mentioning another thing I've noticed in case someone else does a search and finds themselves in a similar situation. Everything I'm reading says people feel the effects within 45 minutes or so but for me even the "initial" effects take hours.. I'd say around the 4-5 hour mark is when I finally feel anything. More and more I'm thinking this is a thiamine issue. I am going to test this out by taking a continuous daily dose and see if the effects persist.. if the effects are due to the normal acute effect of sulbutiamine then presumably they would wear off pretty quickly, everyone seems to develop a tolerance within a few days or a week.
