As I am at risk for colon cancer (my mother passed away too young from this) I am trying to address my diet and supplements to help reduce my risk. But am increasingly confused.

First this long thread (made in 2008?)

http://www.longecity...ick-to-the-rda/

which suggests supplementing with NO MORE than 200 mcg

But a quick google search brings up many conflicting results. For instance there is at least one study from 2008 that suggests supplementing with rather high amounts (5mg) of folic acid can prevent recurrence of colon cancer.

The wiki post seems to sit right in the middle

I just purchased a multi containing 800mcg of folic acid per serving. Is it wise to use this long term, or should I ditch this and rather strive to get any folates thru my diet instead?
