What is the best Supplement for social anxiety? If the supplement you choose is in 2nd question choose other for first or vice versa.

Best in terms of raw effectiveness? Phenibut hands down, second would be Kratom/Bacopa.

In terms of safety, long-term efficacy and consistency, theanine + magnesium is a much safer option, but it's not going to eliminate social anxiety to any significant degree.

Otherwise, in my experience Tianeptine sulfate is generally the best anxiolytic substance, but that's in doses upwards of 50mg. Though calling Tianeptine a supplement is just silly, then again half the substances on your list shouldn't really be considered a supplement, but a drug.

It will vary by person, but I'd put niacin on that list, as it is likely more effective than niacinamide. Also taurine, TMG, and a proprietary mix called Happy Camper that contains--

Passion Flower extract, Kava Kava, Eleuthero, Gotu Kola extract, Kola Nut extract, Schizandra, Wood Betony, and English Lavender

And if you're considering off-label drugs, propranolol for public speaking.

I hear lemon balm extract is really good for anxiety. I believe it's a gaba re uptake inhibitor.

So far, magnesium taurate helps some.  Other forms of magnesium didn't seem to have much effect for me.  Ashwagandha also seems to help some when stacked with the magnesium.  However, I'm going to replace Ashwagandha with Relora to see if it works better.

Kanna is best for long term. Rhodiola rosea (arctic root brand, 1-2 pills) is great for a month or so, then looses in effect. These two herbs are great for serotonin increase and for increasing sociability

Honestly it depends on what neurotransmitters you're deficient in. Figure out if you have a deficieny in dopamine or serotonin, those are the two that usually affect social anxiety. I struggle with anxiety and dopaminergics help me the most. Specifically adderall, vyvanse, tianeptine, phenylpiractam. Serotonin boosters tend to increase my social anxiety

Here's a second for off label Tianeptine Sulfate, also in a 50-60 mg dose.  Works so well I think I prefer it to Clonazepam, especially when you compare the addictive potential of each.

I don't think it's as simple as dopamine or serotonin deficiency. I can take ssris and they boost my mood put my anxiety also increases, especially the physical heart palpitations type. And if I take dopaminergic such as selegiline from 1mg-5mg or wellbutrin my mood is still poor but I have a bit more motivation although also again my anxiety is increased. Hasn't the whole neurotransmitter hypothesis been debunked by now anyway? I mean they obviously play a role but all these years of psychiatric medication and we are still no closer to the actual cause of mental health problems, which can be quite diverse. To me I think it makes sense that it's all in the gut which inflammation ramifications travel to other parts of the body, brain etc. But that's just an estimated opinion of mine.

Anyhow, back on track after 10 years of psychiatric meds, and more recently a couple of years trying alternatives I've just discovered kava has a good gentle effect on my mood, calming me, increasing my memory and sociability and even decreasing neuropathic pain. Before that I've been taking Kratom for a couple years. It's good but has it a pitfalls. I'm keen to source nsi 189 and team it with kava. I used nsi for 6 months and only the anxiety was my side effect. I previously used pregabilin to control it but I think kava doesn't make me as dumb as pregabilin can.

I would take psilocybin before lsd, only because must of the acid I see is bunk or some kind of dangerous research chemical.

For me caoco increases my anxiety, though, if I’m in solitude it does combat fatigue and clear my head.

I haven't "shroomed for over 25 years.  Is there anyone else out there who has 'shroomed recently after years and years off?

Anyone experimented with micro (sub-trip) doses of 'shrooms?

I just can't imagine tripping while worrying about my kids college funds and my mortgage!  Lol.

Tolerance builds with micro dosages of psilocybin. I’ve never micro dosed but I’ve heard good experiences about it.

However, I do take psilocybin every year (3g) and I always feel amazing for the next few months. It seems to rewire the way I think and diminishes my anxiety and social phobia.

If you worry, your bound to have a bad trip, which could be beneficial or detrimental. If anything I would micro dose and see how it goes but I’m not recommending it.

For those considering the option, most psychedelic trips can rapidly be aborted with a benzo. Sublingual etizolam works well and rapidly, along with being legal, cheap, and readily available in most places. It's only $60 a gram from a US source.

bupropion has no clinical effect on dopamine its a ne releaser, also a maob inhibitor hasnt got the same beneits of dopaminergic stimulants at all.

Current psychiatric meds are also useless in the way they interfect, ssris impair phasic release and serotonin releasers like mdai are much more effective and faster acting antidepressants, there arent any signiicant dopaminergic antidepressants and others antagonise receptors which activation off is far more effective for depression, eg mirtazepine or treshold doses of psychedelic, depends on the depression as one has overactive 5ht2a and the other underactive but psychedelics probably by affecting all serotonin receptors work for both.

kratom worked so there you are showing the opiate system seems implicated in your symptions.

Language barrier I believe.  I just mean that alcohol has the longest, most tried and true history as a social "lubricant" in the history of mankind.

A couple glasses of beer or wine does do a remarkable job of obliterating social anxiety in the short term.  Of course, we all know it can lead to a panoply of negative health issues in the long run.  But it's certainly no more dangerous than benzos, and similar to Phenibut in terms of addiction potential (IMO.)

What is your source for mulungu? It is a good plant, but I got the best results from tea made from mulungu I had to shred myself. Something more convenient but just as effective would be nice. I bought an alcohol extract, but it is under-dosed compared to the tea I've made.

A little bit of selegiline and a caffeinated drink makes me more confident. Not the same as lowering anxiety though.

This, definitely, if it's for something important.

My understanding is acid is very active at doses around 100 micrograms.   And my understanding is that most of the fake acid has no effect at 100ug and would be pretty harmless even if it was something bad because almost nothing else is psychoactive at such a small dose.  Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong.   Anyway from personal experience psilocybin seemed to alleviate social anxiety in me for a couple weeks after a single dose.   LSD did not have that effect.

Ok.  Now that I have more personal experience with Phenibut and Clonazepam, I can say without a doubt that Phenibut is by far the most effective substance I have ever used for social anxiety.

I can see Tianeptine in large doses as being effective, as obviously are benzos and propranolo, but for an over the counter substance I can't believe anything comes close to Phenibut;  certainly no herbal supplement and I've taken nearly all of those.

fntms's Photo fntms 18 Apr 2016

Please don't recommend or make it seem that it's fine to take high doses of tianeptine... The therapeutic tested dose is 3x12.5 mg and that's it. And that works for many people (especially for anxiety, maybe not so much for depression).

According to Steve Fowkes, GHB is a very safe sleeping aid and a nutrient.

I'd probably go for pretty much anything other than benzos and phenibut, if I really wanted to combat anxiety for a prolonged period.

Things I have found to work to some degree: fasoracetam, selegeline, cerebrolysin, magnesium(bisglycinate), glycine.

It's weird that no one has even mentioned probiotics, which have shown a strong association with decreased social anxiety among young adults who eat fermented foods.

As an experiment, and as someone with a long history of social anxiety, over the past year and a half, I've been eating hefty amount of probiotics every day.

This is also in addition to making an effort to socialize and not avoid social situations of course. Along with doing improv comedy classes and shows with a team.

What's changed? For my entire life I tested as an INFJ (took the Myers Briggs test at 12 yrs, then again at 35 yrs, same results). I took the test again 4 months ago I now test as an ENFP.

I would largely credit the probiotics I think, as I did not notice a big change in me until a couple of months after I began taking in a bunch of good lactobacillus acidophilus and other strains.

I am/was getting much of it from a supplement and from yogurt and sauerkraut, eating bananas and oatmeal as well. The best source by far according to lab tests (and Google searches) is sauerkraut. There are trillions more cultures in 50g of sauerkraut than there are in a single supplement pill from a store bought bottle. I checked labdoor for the best brand, however.

I would often make Rueben sandwiches but found that this method was not the healthiest way to get a big dose. That's a low energy food that just drains you. Instead, nowadays, I just down 50g of the stuff like bad medicine with water lol. I think actually, the more I eat the better it tastes, the bacteria in your gut may change your taste buds to make you like the stuff, not to mention how it makes you want to socialize and makes you want to be around other people. It takes over your mind for sure. Has something in theory to do with the bacteria wanting to spread.  I'm constantly wanting to socialize, like it's all I want to do. I work from home which is convenient and I've loved it for the past few years but it's driving me nuts by the end of the day now and I have to get the hell out of the apartment and socialize.
