Is is possible to play representative level sport while on a calorie reduced diet? I noticed while I was reading the list of food that should be eaten for calorie reduction that they are the same foods that are generally recommended to most sports people as a way to stay healthy. If I was trying to play and train for rugby would I just go for enough calories to keep my mass with as much protein as I require? I would like to try calorie reduction but I'm not prepared to give up my sport to do it.

In that case I would't go full CR, try "intermittent fasting": i.e. not eating for 18h (sleeping time counts) once in one or two weeks.

I don't think CR would work well with your sport. You need the calories in order to perform. The upshot is that even if you are eating more calories, you are still burning most of them up with your active lifestyle, so there shouldn't be much negative effect.

Yeah, CR means eating less than your maintenance. If you do that, you will lose muscle, which will definately affect your game.
