From my experience(as a migraine sufferer) I believe that in my case it is related to or caused by vasodilation. Vasoconstriction can also cause headaches.
I think that histamine(vasodilating) and allergic reactions could be involved as well. This applies to me not necessarily to others. Tyramine rich foods can also trigger migraines.
I have indentified different possible triggers
- Nuts (this coud be due to histamine or allergic reaction)
- Aged cheeses
- Salami
- Dehydration - This can trigger vasodilation in the brain by lowering blood pressure.
- Direct exposure to sunlight - Not sure why
- Niacin, especially higher doses - Nearly 100% success rate in giving me a migraine, vasodilating effect
- B vitamins in higher doses
- Infrequent meals, (Hypoglycemia?)
- Fish oil - Allergies? Vasodilation/Lower blood pressure?
- Stress, having to focus with my eyes a lot
Don't know exactly why it happens. I think low blood pressure can be a risk factor. I got some improvements when i started fixing my dysbiosis(coincidence?). Interestingly when my dysbiosis was at it's worst I had almost daily migraine attacks.
What helped? Besides drugs, CBD oil. It does not lower the frequency of my migraines but it eliminates most of the pain that goes along with it. Very good relief.
Things that boost serotonin did also help. (SSRI etc) Serotonin can raise blood pressure and is vasoconstricting. , Antidepressants are sometimes prescribed for that purpose. I had some success taking Tryptophan when attack would start. This can make things much worse for some but in my case it helped.

Thanks for the reply. What CBD oil would you recommend and what is your method for taking it? Oral?

I got the product locally, did not order on the internet. From what I read I would stay away from cheap CBD products. There are a lot of questionable manufacturers and cheap brands can contain harmful residues as well as being not as effective.
I took it orally, dissolved it under the tongue and I worked quickly usually.
