Hello,

So I have recently discovered NR from joining this forum. I am a senior who suffers from heart failure and kidney disease. I would be interested in hearing any personal experience members have had with NR in regards to the condition(s).

Thank You

I'm sorry I don't have an answer about NR and I'm not as scientifically knowlegeable as many here.  I am wondering if you've considered D-Ribose and Co Enzyme Q10 to help with your heart issue?  This comes with a big disclaimer though, I've read a few papers about the benefits of both but it was done informally and I haven't got the references, so I'm just flagging it up.  I hope you get some more info on what you have asked for.

Hi and welcome! Here are a few articles. The third is a study on NMN but it would appear from many studies that NMN and NR share most of the same benefits as a result of their shared enzymatic pathway. There is some debate about differences in tissue distribution, but we don't have much data on that yet. Suffice to say it appears NR may be able to help, it almost certainly wouldn't hurt to try. Note: NR is also known by its trade name Niagen in case you are doing google searches for the product and having any difficulty finding a reputable source.

I don't have personal experience with regard to measuring effect of NR on heart/kidney's but my father takes it and also has a heart condition (I recommend it after his last bypass). I don't know if it is helping him but I can say he's vigorous and appears to be in much better health since his last heart attack. He's been playing plenty of golf in the summer and in the winter he has quite a few strenuous activities in which he engages. I know that's not much to go on, sorry! But the studies I think are very important to read through if you get the time.

Best of luck!

My wife has diabetes and microamburia. Her A1C and kidney functions all improved after taking NR. A 70 year old physician reported on CDXC yahoo thread that he had stage 2 kidney disease. Even though he had been on high dose Niacin for 5 years. It never improved. After one year of NR, his kidney function returned to normal and he is much more energetic than before. NR definitely helps with heart, but I have not seen any personal experiences about it.

some new research:

"Loss of Sirt3 accelerates arterial thrombosis by increasing formation of neutrophil extracellular traps and plasma tissue factor activity"

"Therefore, enhancing SIRT3 activity by pan-sirtuin activating NAD+-boosters may provide a novel therapeutic target to prevent or treat thrombotic arterial occlusion in myocardial infarction or stroke."

Threadstarter, I have no personal experience to report but did you see this study proposal already? It might encourage you that  the researchers apparently  hypothesize that NR can be of great value for HFpatients. Also interesting that they will 'uptitrate' to twice 1000mgs/day.

The best of luck!

I can also confirm that on 250 mg NR my kidney function which was already within normal limits improved further.

Does anyone know if the patients in the trial will be tested with 250 mg and 500 mg as well as after 1000 mg?
