"Initially, the impetus was to test this drug in a novel animal model that was more similar to 99 percent of Alzheimer's cases," Dr. Antonio Currais, a research assistant at the Salk Institute, said in a press release. "We did not predict we'd see this sort of anti-aging effect, but J147 made old mice look like they were young, based upon a number of physiological parameters."

Anybody heard about J147? What it is?

If you do a search here on J147, you'll find it's been known for a while. It's still very expensive, but this new study should really ramp up the interest.

Do they discuss how it "reversed" aging or merely notice old mice looked and acted younger?

Have you tried NSI-189?  If not, you should.  Wish I could help with J147 info, but I don't know anyone who's tried it.
