Alpha-synuclein is a normal brain protein which helps to release neurotransmitters from compartments known as synaptic vesicles. But it is also involved in a series of neurological disorders including Parkinson's disease - the mechanism of which is still quite unknown. We know that when alpha synuclein is present in oligomeric formations, it aggregates in "plaques", causing neuronal dead. Furthermore, it was speculated for a long time that seeding of aggregation is highly plausible, but now the German researchers have confirmed that alpha-synuclein is capable of traveling even from brain to stomach and vice versa.

Do you know any nutraceuticals exerting neuroprotection against beta amyloid buildup? I know Noopept, L-theanine and especially ALCAR from my work, but what are the others? I came across acetyl-l-cysteine because I often run in cold conditions:D Melatonin is also known for brain longevity, but it doesn't suit me. Oh, omega-3. Any other?
