Nick Lane is essentially backing up the SENS arguments with regards to mitochondrial dysfunction. I highly recommend his book "Power, Sex, and Suicide", which convinced me of two things. One, mitochondrial dysfunction is the root cause of aging and, two, we are alone at least in the Milky Way and quite possibly in the entire observable universe.
