Hey guys... can you dig this?
From Tyler:
I just learned about an effort to get the SIAI $400,000 Matching Challenge covered on Digg's front-page.
See: http://digg.com/gene...for_AI_research
According to an unofficial FAQ about the Digg algorithm, news items in the Science category must receive 70-85 Diggs within the initial 24 hours to make it to the front-page. As of now, we have less than five hours to secure enough votes. We need 55. It takes about 15 seconds to join Digg to digg the item.
If you want to help us out, please take a few seconds to digg the above URL. Posting a positive comment will also improve the odds.
Hundreds of individuals on these lists value SIAI, many of whom are close friends, so the number of diggs will necessarily increase if everyone avoids the bystander effect. Nick, Max, Natasha, James, Reason, Spike, and everyone else who supports the Institute: please take a few seconds to digg the item.
Thanks everyone,
Tyler

Interesting to see Thiel's sponsorship of the MPrize receive more than 380 diggs from Sept 2006:

Sweet, I'm sure it hit the front page with 133 diggs. I am adding my digg to it, even though it is 3 days old. (never to late to digg a good story, right?)
SIAI deserves all the publicity and funding that they can get.

Hi guys.. we're making another Digg push (via Digg Video this time). The last Digg really helped to bring in new visitors, so we're hoping this time will be better, with a more concerted earlier effort, especially in the final hours of our mid-challenge match (deadline May 21) to which Peter Thiel will match an additional $50K if we reach $200K.

So, to maximize exposure, we need 200 people to click "Digg it" within the initial few hours. The video was submitted at 5PM Pacific / 8PM Eastern. Also, consider adding a positive comment about SIAI at the Digg URL.

Followup message from Tyler:
It took a small miracle (it's very difficult to pull this off), but we are there.
There's a good chance that the video will be buried (taken off the main page) because of naysayers, since it's now being seen by a broader range of people, many of whom will never have heard about SIAI or the notion of the singularity, and will thus consider all of this...a little funny.
So, we really need a lot more Diggs, 5-star ratings, positive comments, and blog posts/links to ensure the video stays on the main page of Digg Videos, so that thousands of people on Monday and throughout the coming week can learn about the Singularity Institute, and begin the process of learning more about transhumanist topics.

Thank you to everyone who helped us so far. Let's keep pushing this momentum we've created.
With best wishes,

We should start using the same approach as singinst here at imminst.
I'll do it now for the CHristianty versus Aetheism debate. Bruce can watch the numbers coming into the forum to see if it has any effect
