With Jason Lanier, and talking about all kinds of stuff having to do with consciousness, AI, etc.

Was that link messed up? Yudkowsky and (Jaron) Lanier were just talking about Iraq. Interesting to see Lanier minus the dreadlocks, working for M$oft.

Why don't you like Eliezer? I virtually watched him "grow up" on the Extropy mailing list over the past ten or so years. I remember when he was very sensitive about his age/youthfulness. I just wished he had pursued a formal education, but he can be very stubborn if he does not want to do something. lol And yet despite that, he is extremely bright (doesn't like to be called a genius) and also quite good at self-promotion. The latter quality makes me want to compare him (it may seem like a strange comparison) to Howard Stern. But Eliezer's entire net worth probably does not equal Stern's pocket change.

In the website video discussion I thought Eliezer fared very well and more than held his own. On the other hand, Lanier looked like he had been up all night drinking...

I kept thinking the same thing watching. (that he was either high or had been drinking) The times when he laughs were very uncomfortable.

I don't know the procedure, but it would be nice to get some more life extensionists/transhumanists on bloggingheads. They get thousands of viewers a day. (release 1-2 videos per day)

There was a gross misspelling in the name which some moderator removed without saying anything.

I am a huge, huge Yudkowsky supporter. Everything he writes is awesome, and he is argueably the smartest person on the planet.

I highly, highly recommend that everyone visit the Singularity Institute website, and send them some money.

You can also read his ramblings over at OvercomingBias.com

What exactly do you mean by "machine", such that humans are not machines?

-Eliezer Yudkowsky, bloggingheads interview

Frankly, I found this Lanier guy to be a complete moron, rambling on like a blithering idiot.

Is it some sort of debate kind-of thingy? Over the web. How does one get on bloggingheads.

It is run by Bob Wright (who wrote NonZero, runs meaningoflife.tv, etc). They usually have semi-prominent people associated with different subject areas. (lots of political stuff, high traffic bloggers, scientists, etc.) Saturday is always a science subject, and would likely be the best area to get on, although the "Free Will" show is very oriented towards libertarian and free expression type stuff. (and the host, Will Wilkinson has mentioned being interested in cryonics before; I think I did a thread on that sometime awhile back)

Sometimes the debates are very heated when it is a liberal vs a conservative talking about politics or something, but generally people are pretty nice to each other on there. As to how to get on, I have no idea. I think it is an invitation thing, but I suppose someone could email Bob Wright (or one of the Science Saturday main guys or something) and see what the procedure is. I'd like to see you on there, Mind. (you could let them know you already have plenty of on camera experience)
