I started playing about 5 months ago, and I figure that the best approach for progression is to incrementally increase the piece's difficulty. I was doing that for a while until (last week) I decided to go back a bit and learn the song Apologize. My favorite genre are those songs which are both climatic yet melancholy.
Here's a link to the most difficult song I can play now:
Now I'm obviously looking for something that has a similar feeling that it instills, but is notably harder.
Ideas?

I really like this one, didn't find it too hard, but that might mean nothing.
And, if you care, take a look at this: http://www.pianofund...ok/en/chapter_1
Much information on practicing, I really found it very helpful.
Oh, and a list: http://listverse.com...at-sound-great/

I learned this one over 25 years ago, and still enjoy playing it. The whole "first lessons in Bach" book is worth learning. Full of little gems.

That's a great piece, but it's too easy. I'm trying to find something that's challenging. The songs in the last link are nice also, but again, too facile. I learned Scot Davis' My Immortal arrangement within 2 weeks and could play it fluently. I need to find something markedly harder than that, but still carries the morose theme.

I like the song, but I'm looking for something a little different. I'll probably still learn this though.
*edit* I'm considering learning this:
It's so beautiful, and so climactic.

I liked the minuet in G major... I'm going to start learning that one.

If you like Bach, check this out. The Aria is easy to learn, but as you'll see it quickly becomes far more difficult. And yes, Mr. Gould plays the Aria far slower then anyway else, but I love it this way, and yes, Glen Gould is a wackadoo :-) But in a good way artistically speaking.
For my money, Glen Gould playing the Goldberg Variations, and Angela Hewitt playing the Well Tempered Clavier is an endless eargasm. That stuff was written over 250 years ago and still sounds fresh and alive to me.

I actually know the first quarter, but it's in c lol. I postponed learning the rest indefinitely. One day..... =P
Regarding vids though: I'm gonna get a video recorder soon so I'll be able to upload some.

Go to youtube and type "Final fantasy piano," and be prepared to be astounded.
Also Mad World - Gary Jules.
Also type in "ragtime piano" and the second video is of two guys playing the ragtime cantina from Star Wars. Amazing.
