Sadly, (or maybe not), the future of biomedical research will be left to wealthy philanthropists. Apart from those based in the USA/Europe, there is an increasing interest from Oriental billionaires.

It's a Chinese tradition: first acquire wealth and power, then seek immortality. The emperor supported Chinese medicine, and the court herbalists came up with some formulas that were effective enough that the herbalists were not executed.
Not a bad target for outreach.
