Syrian Rue
Absolutely vile stuff. Moclobemide is a vastly better option IMHO.

I'm more interested in well tolerated selective MAO-B inhibitors as they have the potential to make PEA a poor man's amphetamine while addressing some of amphetamine's inherent toxicity. Without digging out my research laptop it appears that most well known herbal MAOI's are either MAO-A selective or non-selective (such as curcumin). Also, please for the love of whatever you hold holy don't go for something that's known or likely to be a irreversible inhibitor of MAO-A. The last thing anyone wants is to sink their teeth into a block of cheese and have their heart explode.

Here's some SAR info so you guys can have a shot at looking at potential compounds and various affinities.

I concur; however, from my experience smoking syrian rue prevents the nausea and terrible taste.Syrian Rue

@ enoch1:
Did you check the wikipedia entry for mao inhibitors? There is quite a nice list: http://en.wikipedia....idase_inhibitor
I use Curcumin, but not as an MAO-A inhibitor. I can not tell if it works.
I would definately stay away from harmala alkaloids.
You could use Resveratrol and benefit from other effects on health like sirtuin activation.
St. John's Wort is supposed to be a good MAO-A.

Manganese is a strong MAO inhibitor. Too strong even. Made me feel a little manic at high doses >20 mg.

That same dosage caused the beginnings of a vasoconstrictive crisis with me. Never again.

St johns wort was thought to be a MAOI but I hear now days it's function is similar to an SSRI rather then a MAO-A ?. How does Manganese work I've heard it lowers serotonin ?
