From Noah Baumbach's Kicking and Screaming, and one of the best lines I've heard in a while: "Come on, be romantically self-destructive with me," says a topless and involved woman attempting to entice a man into engaging in casual sex.

Remember the sage words of Henry Miller:
"I have no money, no resources, no hopes. I am the happiest man alive."

It's somewhat shocking how thoroughly dogs clear bones of the remains of meat.

Is it healthy to allow yourself to become alienated by the superficial lifestyles of your friends? Because I'm growing a bit tired of going to bars, dinner parties, and discussing the latest consumption trophies.

How cool, Eastern Iowa finally has a British restaurant, but too bad it's pub style.

"Finally"? Haha, the only thing I'd eat at a British restaurant is breakfast.

I would say that my preference for British food has been in large part due to my father's insistence on personally cooking Irish and British fusion at least twice a week during my formative years. But British cuisine can be quite the comforting diversion from the sort of strict diet that many adhere to, and with the right amount of imagination, exemplified by Gordon Ramsay, a cuisine that's usually ordinary can become quite the hedonic experience.

We're having a brutally cold winter in Iowa, but I'm wondering, how bad is it in your part of Scandinavia?

I bought a great bottle of Ardbeg for Christmas Eve, and my mother has informed me that she has a very special (and unnamed) bottle of wine that she saved for the holidays! Yea! Happy holidays to everyone!

I wish I could convey my greatest sorrow and regret to the family of the late Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, whom I regard as a man of profound intelligence, and as an enormously adept diplomat whose achievements have few parallels among his contemporaries. Personally, his loss feels like losing a precious compass whilst navigating through a perpetual storm.

I apologize for the tardiness of my replies to the messages in my burgeoning inbox, but I've really been enjoying my work a lot lately---even if the quantity has been burdensome. But separately, my enthusiasm for participating in these forums has dampened considerably, and I'm beginning to seriously contemplate either sharply reducing, or completely ceasing my participation here.

I sincerely hope that Julian Assange is incarcerated for a lifetime in the darkest prison in the world, infected with leprosy, and subjected to incessant sodomy.
