Attention: All images created so far have been placed in this first post of the thread for convenience. Please try to only use the small version of the images (if there is a big and a small one) whenever possible.

This thread is for Custom Signature pictures. (They are the little pictures down at the bottom of the screen whenever you post a message in the forums.)

If you have an idea for one, and would like to have it created, just leave a message in this thread. Or, if you have any that you have created, or any questions about them, feel free to post those as well.

To put a picture into your signature, click on "Control" up in the upper right hand of your screen, then paste in the route to your image with the regular image tags around it. (ask if you are confused)
(you can put more than one in there, up to about 4 unless they are combined into one image)

Here are all of the relevant ones created so far (so you don't have to slog through the entire thread looking for them) Please use the small ones if possible when there are a big and a small one:

Edit: this was originally the first message of this thread:

I have created some images to go in your signature, for anyone that is interested. I made them fairly small (only 85 pixels tall each) so that they won't take up too much space. There are 4 categories of ones that I did:
1) Length of Membership
2) Amount of posts
3) Country of Residence
4) Admins (only applies to some people)

I can make some different categories, if that sounds like a good idea to you guys. Also, if anyone wants a custom one, I am feeling generous so go ahead and ask me and I will see what I can do.

I will post each set of them in an individual reply to this message, along with the link to the image. To edit your signature, click "Control" (upper righthand by your screen name), then click "Edit Signature" in the column on the lefthand side of the screen, and (if you want to add an image) then you can click the "IMG" button and put in the link to the image. I would suggest putting them side by side (horizontally) and not up and down (vertically), so they don't take up as much room when you post.

First up the length of membership ones (using different colored award ribbons with the ImmInst sign in the middle):

Half Year:

5 or more Years (yes I realize no one has been here this long yet, but I thought I would go ahead and make it):

Next, amount of posts (using colored stars for less than 1000, and gold stars for 1000+, with ImmInst sign in the middle):

Country of Residence (using country flags with ImmInst sign). I only did a few countries, so if your country isn't here, post a message telling me which country and I will make one for you.

There is also a category of *lifetime member* of which there are already a few of us.

How would you do that? Five and another infinity sign?

Also what about global citizenry for those that see their membership in more than a single state?

The UN flag is full of political connotation but nonetheless the earth as seen from above might make a better image beyond a flag IMHO.

An interesting project you have here. However if a few of us use all the appropriate tags then the page might not even open on some computers around the world. :))

Oh, I think you might misunderstand, those are for total length of time you have been a member of ImmInst. (taking a look at your "Joined" date, it would be 3 years for you). I don't think anyone would be over 4 years until August rolls around, at which point some of you guys would be.

Also what about global citizenry for those that see their membership in more than a single state?

That is a good idea, I will look into creating one of those next. I just thought the country ones would be nice to let people know where you were living (at the moment)

An interesting project you have here. However if a few of us use all the appropriate tags then the page might not even open on some computers around the world.

Thanks!...and the most anyone would have now is 4 (one from each category) (plus your signature only allows 200 total characters, so 4 or 5 would be the max allowed anyway), and I designed all of the pics to be really tiny in size (all are between 3 and 9 KB apiece) so even with a page full of them, the header at the top of the page takes longer to load than the pics, they are very, very small. :)

You need to at least put the 5000 posts one in your sig Lazarus, you are one of only 3 people that are over 5000. [thumb]

Great work, LiveForever22! They are excellent [thumb] . I have put them in my Signature already, and I think they look wonderful. Thanks.

Thanks Lifeforever and that is after somewhere between 4 & 500 posts were deleted during our big editing purge.

I applaud your effort LiveForever...and my mother always said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, but...

(Please remember that this is just my opinion, mostly a matter of aesthetic preference, and not meant to offend)

(1) If I were to use either the post club or navigator badges I'd feel like Deputy Dog. (2) The length of membership award reminds me of something you'd win if you placed at a Vermont cheese competition.

The country of residence ones are okay I guess, if nationalism is your thing.

Great work] . I have put them in my Signature already, and I think they look wonderful. Thanks.

flair is optional, the cover sheets for the TPS reports are not, however.

Nice work! Could you make a version that is a bit smaller and maybe we can get Jay to find a way to place them on the left hand column next to the avatar area. Once again, nice work and initiave.

I need a Reality flag, a 100% Productivity star, and a dynamic Today's Date – Joined Date ribbon.

Sure, I can decrease the size. Did you mean for all of them or did you have one in mind? I don't exactly understand what you are asking, however. Where on the left hand column are you talking about? Are you talking about when you go into your controls, or you are talking about something else? Sorry for all the questions, but I know if I try to go about doing it will be wrong and I will have to redo them all again if I don't understand completely what you are asking for. :)

I am unfamiliar with what flag a Reality flag is, and I don't know how to do dynamic ones, these are just meant to be simple little gifs for your sig. I could do the star, you just want it to say "100% Productivity" and be on a star?

Thanks for making the Mprize one.

Hmmm. . . We'll probably need to invent a Reality flag and compromise a little on the ribbon. It would probably make sense if the Reality flag was black with the word ""Reality"" plus quotation marks in white. Yes, my star should say "100% Productivity." And let's see. The ribbon could simply just say "Do the Math Member." But I'm willing to work with you if further compromise is necessary.

I like the idea, but those images are just too big!

I think the mprize 300 is a good size since so few people will have it anyway. As for all the other ones, I think this would be a more appropriate size for use in signatures:

Posted Image

and this would work better on the left hand column:

Posted Image

Obviously they would have to be redrawn to be legible at these sizes, it just seems like it cuts up the flow of conversation too much having such large images between posts, particularly if everybody is doing it. Also it would be nice to make all the backgrounds transparent or at least the same color as the background of the forum.

Yes, one of the main problems as size decreases then the text becomes harder and harder to read. as you can see by the ones you showed, there would be absolutely no room for text in ones that small. I originally thought of doing ones that were 100 pixels tall, but decided that the 85 pixel high ones would be better since they were smaller. I can decrease the size some,(perhaps 20% or so?) but not as much as the ones you are displaying, those are just too small to still have readable text or be of use.

Awesome work LF...

I think that if you tried versions that were slightly less colorful (although I think the 300 badge is perfect!), perhaps even monochromatic with something like the forum color scheme, large images might work better.

Edit: I will go ahead and leave this post here, but there are "transparent" ones now for all of the ones with white boxes around them: go to the next page (page 2) to see them. The country flags are in this post though, since they do not have white boxes around them.

Ok, here are small versions of everything created so far. In the future, I will make a big and a small version of whatever I create, so everyone can choose which version they want to use. The small ones are less than half of the size of the original ones (about 40% of the originals), and are about as small as they can get and still be readable. Also, if anyone wants a bigger version of anything so far (possibly for using somewhere else, like another website, other than as a signature, etc.) I could do that.

Here are all the small ones (some are a little different than the big versions):

Edit: Look up to the first post in this thread; It contains all of the ones created so far, so I am removing the ones with white backgrounds from this post.

I agree that it's perfect as is.

Also, Kevin's idea sounds pretty good. The sizes I showed were merely a point to start negotiations from I suppose :)

I kind of don't know if I like mixing the ImmInst logo with national flags however. Perhaps just small images of flags could be used for those who wish? They certainly could be much smaller while remaining recognizable.

Also how about making one of the smaller size ones that says "Mprize Supporter" or "Mprize Donor"?

What about making some up for John Schloendorn and the others who are doing actual research?

I didn't even think about making them transparent, I will do that with future ones, but I am not going back and redoing all of them I don't think (that would take a long time). I posted the small versions of all of them. Also, regular flags can already be found a ton of places, so I don't think anyone would need me to create just regular flags for them. Although if someone would like me to resize a regular flag for them to be really small, I can do that if they request it, but since there are so many flags out there, it would take too long to do every one, so if someone asks I can do that. My original goal was to create ImmInst-specific icons that weren't too generic, so that they would be specific to our group here. :)

I will get on the Mprize donor one, that is a good idea. Also, maybe a "Cryonics Member" one (or "Alcor Member" and "Cryonics Insititute member"). I will start on those next.

I can make some up for John Schloendorn, no problem. I could do just a generic researcher one or something, but if they let me know what they want (or what type of research they are doing), I can make them to order.

Also, as I said, if someone has some they need made bigger for any reason (for use on a website?) I can manage that as well, most likely.

Ok, so changing them to be transparent was easier than I had originally thought. Here are all the small ones that had white boarders as transparent. I didn't do any of the big ones, if you want a big one done, let me know.

No problemo. It looks like you used the small pics and stretched them out to be big? (and put them all in one long pic) It might not look as grainy if you use the big ones instead. I can make the big ones be transparent if that would help.

It's all right. JPEG compression is the cause. I appreciate it, though.
