Details a new imaging system that allows researchers to directly visualize the molecular activity of individual neurons in the brain of live animals at a single-cell resolution. They think it will be useful for understanding pathological processes in real time, leading to potential new drugs and treatments for a host of neurological diseases and mental disorders. But, (imo) it could also be the first steps in being able to model the brain for being able to eventually simulate one.
