No, the medical establishment is not about to do anything useful about aging. I neither trust or have any confidence at all in the medical establishment. It's up to us to do something useful about it. That's why I come in here (longecity).

I missed the notice of the meeting. Scheduling it just a day before seems like poor planning. Did I miss anything or was it just a repeat of what was already said? I'm sure mind would not answer my questions same as he ignores them here. 

 

Has anything been done? If nothing is done its fairly clear that the site will continue to dwindle. Advertising revenue coming in can be used to place carefully crafted ads for this site. There are other things that can be done but as I pointed out before, inertia is the default state of all groups and individuals. In order to get beyond that and actively try to fix things requires awareness and understand of the problem, focusing on a solution, and implementing the solution like for example ads. Next must come follow up and adjustment.

 

We are at the first step, trying to understand that there is a problem. Will anything come of it?

The wider point is that the internet has been fully 'captured' by functional monopolies like google and amazon, so people will only go where directed, in this case by google. And that would be reddit. The discourse there is far inferior to Longecity. I think the only thing that can solve this, ultimately, is for search engines like google to have their power limited, perhaps by being declared a monopoly and being split up into smaller, less dominant search engines.

The quality of dialogue is so inferior on Reddit. On reddit, any post about longevity usually receives many comments from people saying that longevity is bad because it will enable billionaires to live forever. Then you get a bunch of people making stupid puns, trolls, and people who don't know anything about science.

You can certainly engage with good debate and discussion here at LongeCity. For anyone who is on Reddit and notices some sharp people discussing rejuvenation, let them know about LongeCIty.

I'll add my two cents. What about restructuring or updating the website itself? For example, merging together or cutting down on some of the subforums? 

 

Personally, I think the sheer number of subforums (and sub-subforums) and the way they're structured might not be efficient anymore, especially now that traffic is low. 

 

For example, why if I create a post in one of the three Brain Health subforums (Mental Health, Nootropic Stacks, or Neurointerface) does that post not appear in the main list of Brain Health posts? Shouldn't "Brain Health" be a sort of superordinate aggregate of the subforums within it? Does this not reduce the visibility and reach of posts? Maybe in times past, when there was a lot more activity on this site, it was better to have discussion categories structured this way. But now that barely anyone is here, I think it might be doing more harm than good.

I agree completely. I find the current forum setup to be difficult to use and counterproductive to the goal of encouraging dialogue. Threads are excessively segregated by topic, making it hard for people like me who just want to look at all the latest active threads and jump into new discussions, regardless of what the topic is. I think it would be better to have a single forum, with the option to tag a thread with one or more topic identifiers. A user could then chose to view all active threads at once, or sort the active threads by topic identifier. For example, a user could sort existing threads to find only those that have been tagged "Brian" and "Protocol."

I'm glad to hear someone else agrees with this! I'd love to hear what the admins/moderators think. 

 

I do like the idea of a comprehensive forum; a section that aggregates all posts across the forum into a single spot where you can see the latest activity and also filter by different tags or criteria, exactly the way you've described.

 

However, I don't think this should entirely replace subforums. Doing so would be moving too far in the opposite direction in my opinion. I think we still need some structure and organization to the forum. It's just that the current state of the forum suffers a bit from over-fragmentation.

Regarding the "latest active threads", there is something like this, the: RecentTopics, in the Menu under Search, but it is only available to registered users, perhaps it could be made public, or something similar to it.

Ahhh I was not aware of this feature. That's pretty darn close. 

 

When I opened it though, it was defaulted to the filter "Content I have not read". So it did not display this thread or any recent threads I've been engaging with. I had to select one of the other time period filters to see everything. 

 

But that's still a great feature. I will be making use of it. If only it were integrated directly within the Forum district. For example, it could be the first section displayed on the main forum page above all the other subforums, so that it's easily accessible and new members do not miss it.

I note that pecksniff on the first page who was enthusiastic has posted only once outside of this thread since and has apparently abandoned the site since 2024.

 

It seems to be up to mind what will happen and he likes posting in his doom threads. 

 

There is a lot of doom to spread around. The human race is destined to go extinct at the current rates of childbirth. We are going into a severe recession and depression world wide. Idiot in the white house is pushing for ww3. Climate is changing for the worse, ocean currents we depend on are changing, sea levels are rising and the economy is crashing. And a few minor things like drought over most of the world including usa which means food will become very scarce and expensive. On the bright side we have AI which gives us fake videos full of misinformation

 

Speaking of which, netanyahu is said to have died in march and appears only in AI videos now and is supposedly running the war. Or those who speak for him are running things.
