Have you thought about adding more vit D or Vit C?
health_nutty 01 Nov 2006
Cool, I was wondering what you took. Good stuff.
Have you thought about adding more vit D?
I hadn't thought about adding more vitamin D. I eat a fair amount of fat free cottage cheese, some fat free milk, and get some in my multi. I'm curious why you ask.
I have taken extra vitamin c in the past. I've read quite a few studies which showed that eating foods rich in vitamin C had a benefit, but the supplemented C did not. This lead me to believe we probably only need moderate amount but taken frequently or we need to get it from food (either better absorption or the food contains other nutrients).

You have me thinking again about vitamin C since it is so cheap. Maybe I could add a bit of bulk vitamin C to my green tea which I sip all day. I'd be interested in hearing your views on vitamin C. Perhaps I should just do a search?

Cnorwood19, how old are you? Is the 19 in your nickname your age? If so, providing you do not have any genetic predispositions, would cancer preventatives be the best choice? Considering that cancer is generally something that occurs over time and in the later decades, shouldn't you be more concerned about antioxidants to preserve cell integrity?
I am 25.
Besides nutrition, the drugs/supplements I take that have anti-cancer properties are Rala-carnitine, melatonin, ashwagandha, green tea, Rhodiola. Nutrition and lifestyle choices are a big factor. All these "anti-cancer" supplements, as well as lifestyle factors, have a lot of other health and enhanced quality of life properties. It has yet to be an issue that I have to choose between anti-cancer and other health benefits. I guess the determining factor, if I had to choose, would be the efficacy of the two supplements I would have to choose between.
I dont want to hijack the thread, so if you have any comments or suggestions reply here: http://www.imminst.o...=238&t=11431&s=

That does seem to be a good price. I'll do some research.

I'm considering dropping the spirulina or lowering the dosage for price reasons.
I'm very interested in CoQ10, Idebenone, Carnosine, and more fruit extracts but I can't rationalize the price.

How did you choose the multivitamin you are taking? Seems like the general consensus here is that Ortho-Core is the best, but there's a bazillion multi's out there.
Background
I was originally taking Source Natural's Life Force until I found some information here on bioprene that made me switch (better safe than sorry).
I switched to a decent bioprene free one I could find at a local vitamin shoppe (a 3 day formula).
Now I'm taking SuperNutritionUSA Perfect Blend (a four a day formula).
I like ortho-core a lot. It probably is the best, they have a lot of research behind it. I'm annoyed that the b vitamin amounts are so low. If I was going to take it I would have to buy a high quality b-vitamin as well. If I'm going to shell out that kind of cash for a multi, it had better be perfect.
The most important thing for a multivitamin (for me) is to have multiple pills so I can take one with every meal. Water soluble vitamins are often gone after 3-5 hours, so you need a consistent supply to keep levels high. Also absorption is better if the vitamins are spread throughout the day.
So my criteria was:
1) 3 a day or more
2) No bioprene
3) No niacinamide
4) Iron-free
5) Decent company and price

Why did you drop Cissus, and indeed what were you taking it for in the first place, Joint/tendonitis? It's dubious anabolic properties? Fun?
Sentinel

"Eight-week use of the Cissus formulation significantly reduced plasma total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in the three treatment groups and increased HDL cholesterol in the two obese groups by 50.5 % and 43.0%"
