Definitely. I don't think anyone's thinking of using a .com extension.

as partly suggested:
- fountain-of-life?
- diminutive "Fountain" in posts, speechs, videos, etc, while having "Fountain Of Life" written in the background
- "imminst.org" could be a part of it (Fountain Of Life, Unlimited ? ;-) and let other existing organizations coexist under fountain-of-life

fountainol? fontanol? fountage?
"the fountain of life is flowing around the world"

I wouldnt go for Fountain now but if a large number of members did then I would go for it for sure.

I only have one name in mind lately. I think its a good one but it would take some discussion, some trying to sell it, some work etc... "Inlex", its short for indefinite life extension. Its not the prettiest name ever but its a word thats coinable for meaning indefinite life extension. Vocabulary lacks these kinds of words for obvious reasons, indefinite life extension being pioneered this decade and all.

I like how hour glass symbolizes the cause more than fountain. I know it was suggested before, does anybody else think that hourglass stands a good chance? I mean, its all over the place symbolizing it already. It fits great.

Im also wondering if anybody thinks a number as a name would work, like 808. It doesnt really mean anything but I think I could vote for a name like 808. "I work with 808, an indefinte life extension promotion organization."

Hmmm....

interesting post... I vote for:

OneLife
LifeSpan

Maybe even...

MyOneLife
MyLifeSpan

Takes the confusion out, maybe even projects the idea and gives it a more personal tone.

StarLife.... first word out of my head when I read that is.... Disco!

Now Im thinking of a disco ball, with all the little mirrors and reflections, Abba in the background, some white guy with a big mustache and a fro... nononooo... it just doesn't work for me.

A

Is is just me or are things getting confusing with all these threads and polls on the name change? I thought the top choices were already narrowed down to:

Lifespan
Longevity
Unlimited Lifespans
Klein
Immience
Starlife

I'd only support the first two. But, a new poll will be up shortly with the top choices it was set as a goal during the last directors meeting.

If you havent voted in these three polls then please do.

http://www.imminst.o...nst-t22094.html 1
http://www.imminst.o...nst-t22098.html 2
http://www.imminst.o...ngs-t22100.html 3

They are unofficial, but they do help to get ideas flowing and to get names to stick out. Many good names have been suggested since this poll that will be included in a future poll that includes the winners of this long poll.

How about something like this?

It is not a particularly good image, but what do you think of the concept?

Hmm I like the concept a lot. The graphic needs to be stylised of course.

What about something that implies the rejuvenation aspect of some research into aging? Perhaps the sand could be flowing upwards instead of coming around.

Of course, I was just imagining a neverending hour-glass, it does not matter to me whether the sand flows up or around as long as it recycles!

the recycling hour-glass is great. still, a new name for imminst still needs to be found, no?
I read that it was discussed at UCLA? that some people think that the mainstream name should only be a façade (ie that the existing name should remain active)? how would it be? what about some partial merge with methuselah (whose name is good) or le or fight-aging? other? more brainstorming?

(in case it ever helps; i don't think its very good:

The name voted to run-off against Imminst was Institute for Unlimited Lifespans (IUL). Members voted to keep Imminst 53%, IUL 36%, abstain 11%.

I am still keeping the option open of renaming the front page/ustream/media efforts and maybe splitting the supplement section into it's own site (subsidiaries of Imminst), but most members and the Board of Directors generally support keeping Imminst as the registered name of the non-profit org.

Maybe this isn't the sort of thread someone who has just joined the site (been reading it for a while though) should be commenting in - but i can't resist.
Duke is absolutely spot on in what he says. I like Fountain actually - stay from anything too cold sounding like Institute or anything too "sciencey" sounding (people think like that!).

As posted elsewhere i could probably make a 'super-forum' that enables to browse imminst and MF and others altogether in appearently one single forum. I'm thinking of naming it "longevillage": we are all sort-of forming a village of people interested in longevity

In practice, it should
- be much easier/faster for us
- allow people would promote "longevillage", which is more mainstream than "Immortality Institute"
- allow to keep existing forum names

Side-effects (among others)(desirable or not):
- more weight to forums included and less weight to other websites
- risk to be slower
- possibility to influence what should be discussed (would be used to promote research and tests)

If we do this, I would recommend we exclude the offtopic groups(politics, religion, etc).

we do this, I would recommend we exclude the offtopic groups(politics, religion, etc).

"Good" Forums, threads and posts (pragmatic, realistic, and double-checked life extension) would be selectionned to be largely visible, other-ones being small by default:
- The visibility of each forum would be "hard-coded"
- A new thread would get the visibility of its forum during 2 days; if not selected, it will become smaller
- A new post would get the visibility of its thread during 2 days; if not selected, it will become smaller

=> Longevillage, (not immortal-transhumanists-chosen-by-god.com)

I have a domain for sale that can serve as the name and domain both. (Man.Org)
It's the domain name of our species, otherwise headed for development as a Humanist site.

I kept trying to vote but could not, even after checking off at least one entry for each separate poll. :)
Anyway, I'm likin' 'Life Unlimited' and 'Never Age'.

Maybe 'Life++' or something similar could be applied.
Also, Life 3.0 is possible but would seem dated quickly and would need to be changed in 5 years.

As for sounding the most like a Blue Oyster Cult or Iron Maiden song, 'Kick The Reaper' takes it.

Off the top of head:
  • Organism Resilience 3000
  • The Dreaded Doppleganger Meets Inescapable Physics
  • 2010 And Waaaay Beyond
  • DOn't STop LIVing (the capitalized letters spell out 'Dostliv', the great immortalist of the 18th century)
  • Event Horizon
  • Uploaded And Loving It
  • Death Be Not Proud
  • The Fountain
  • Way Beyond Hope
  • The Secret Order Of The Plantaganet Vampires
  • Obfuscation
  • Life Dilation
  • Wild Highways
  • The Ever-Mist
  • Beyond Time
  • In Your Face, Death
  • The Seance With The Uploaded Psyche
  • Simulacrum's Bane
  • Diet+Physics=Me4Ever
  • Better Than Fame
  • Engulf The Temporal
  • Life Data Springs Eternal
Cheers!
