I used phenibut several months ago and although it does have a noticeable nootropic effect, I also noted that it can come with some very nasty side effects.
So a few weeks ago I ordered some more, but this time got the bulk powder instead of the capsules.
Let me tell you, it has some use as a nootropic, but the side effects for me were very unwanted.
After the first few days I had an extremely unpleasant nightmare. While I believe all dreams (whether positive or negative) can be useful tools for self-insight, the one I had that night was one of the worst I've ever had. I had a dream that two different people were trying to kill me with these razor sharp ice shards. And I kept dodging their attempts at stabbing me, thinking they were just playing around. But several times they did stab me, and I could feel everything. Since it was ice, I felt initial pain, but then it quickly dissipated since the cold kind of numbed it. But I could feel every stab. And it felt SO REAL and I couldn't wake up! When I finally did, I was covered in sweat, and every place on my body where I had been "stabbed" in my dream was asleep due to circulation being cut off. It was so terrifying I couldn't go back to sleep.
I wrote it off as an isolated incident and it didn't really occur to me that it was the phenibut. The next night I had another dream where a girl was using me and when I discovered that she was a cold-hearted bitch (she cheated on me with someone else) I tried to leave the area I was and she promptly started to try to kill me.
It should be noted that most of my dreams are usually about someone or a bunch of people trying to kill me. It probably has to do with my distrusting of others, but it is actually pretty predictable now.
Then the other night I has another nightmare. People were killing me, over and over again. I KNEW I was dreaming, and tried my best to convince myself to wake up. Telling myself all throughout the dream that it wasn't real and not to be scared. When I finally did wake up, I had almost died because I had gotten a severe case of acid reflux which had gone into my lungs. I coughed for about 3 hours and couldn't hardly breath. Each time I breathed in felt shorter and shorter. I have had acid reflux for a long time, but never have I had it to the point where I almost choked to death. Needless to say, I've been very scared to go to sleep lately.
And I also understand the plot of "A Nightmare On Elm Street". Quick trivia on that movie: it was based loosely on a true story. A kid was so scared to go to sleep because of a "boogey man" in his dreams that he stayed up for several days/weeks. When he finally went to sleep, he died.
