I have a fairly good basic understanding of the functioning of neurotransmitters, how different activities spur the use of different neurotransmitters, and so on. My question is, when one stays in a particular state related to the action of a certain neurotransmitter, does the neurotransmitter in any way get "used up", as in the amount of it in the brain is less then before the activity and the body needs to restore the levels of the neurotransmitter?
For instance, if I spent all day reading, talking, using working memory and doing other tasks that up dopamine levels, would my dopamine levels decrease until they were repleted?
Likewise, if I spent all day in a relaxed state learning new stuff, would acetylcholine get depleted?
