Hi all,

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2008 and have been on medication ever since.
I currently take mezavant pills (5-ASA) and do pentasa enemas every second night..

Id really like to stop the medications, as they give me headaches, make my skin break out, etc...

I currently take krill oil, probiotic, garlic extract, metamucil, and magnesium daily.

I do not consume dairy, I only eat gluten 1-2 times per week, meat 1-2 times per week, and try to eat healthy (fish, veggies, chicken, ++)

Any suggestions you can give me on supplements that may help keep me in remission ??
Or any lifestyle changes needed ??

Thanks in advance

Lactoferrin attenuates UC in a dose dependent manner in rats. Worth a try.

If you are taking probiotics, I would also suggest high doses between 500 billion and 3 trillion per day. Cure rate seems to be quite high at these doses.

You might want to discuss with your doctor the exclusion of gluten from your diet.

There is some evidence that curcuma supplementation could help in your condition.
Curcumin, a Curcuma longa constituent, acts on MAPK p38 pathway modulating COX-2 and iNOS expression in chronic experimental colitis.

This might be due to beta glucan - my gf has Crohns and I have been researching all kind of supps for this. She won't take any though :( but I understand, she has to be soo carefull about her food, better not to experiment that much...
